KANSAS CITY CONSTRUCTION BOOM 2018: SPRINGTIME WHOLE FOODS IN BROOKSIDE AMID BITTER SPECULATOR HARVEST???

First a bit of celebration of the fancy-schmancy upcoming college grocery store that the grad student instructors won't be able to afford . . .

Brookside 51 is a 216,000-square-foot mixed-use development under construction . . . Anchored by Whole Foods Market, the property will also feature 170 apartment units. Completion is slated for early 2018. The project at 51st and Oak Streets will feature luxury apartments, a Whole Foods Market and a new home for UMKC Student Health Services.

Accordingly . . .

IS 2018 ANOTHER BOOM YEAR FOR SPECULATIVE LOCAL UPSCALE PROJECTS OR WILL KANSAS CITY IRRATIONAL EXUBERANCE FOR LUXURY DEVELOPMENTS GO BUST???

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. The very definition of KCMO progress.
Another Brookside grocery store for Clay Chastain to collect signatures for his latest "transit" fiasco!

  2. Dangerous place to be. Propane tanks exposed on the North side, 10 ft from the street. Right next to the building. Good luck with that. Boom!!

  3. It will have a lot of women shoppers wearing those tight camel toe black pants

  5. Nah, it'll have lots of UMKC hoodrats and foreign students "shopping" at all hours, shrinkage will kill it in a year!

  6. Certainly won't have anyone over 60. This is going to be a geezer-free zone. Thank God!

  7. Did you see the size of that parking garage? No matter what the City says, they knew all along that this would be the turnaround for the streetcar, regardless of what voters want. That parking garage will be used for the park and ride people that do the same thing with the parking lots at City Market.

  8. Never a good thing to live above a grocery store. Cockroaches and other bugs will get into the walls and become your neighbors.

  9. Mediocre Upscale Crap, that has little economic applicability to a University environment. Notice how few of the things being built now really look like quality that lasts over decades. Pack em in plastic shoe boxes with architecture by Ikea. Sorry Ikea, actually you are better than that

  10. ^^^Nah, I never noticed that. I think the Sprint Center is pretty cool, seems like that's been around for a decade or so. The Kauffamn Center is an architectural masterpiece. It will likely be around several decades. The Block building and it's performance center is very architecturally pleasing to the eye, it's been around for over a decade. The Nelson's addition is quite stunning and nationally applauded, so I really have no fucking idea what you are talking about. Maybe get out once in a while and you might see some things because right now you have absolutely no idea what the fuck you are talking about!

  11. 12:13: Too bad you won't be able to afford to live there.

  12. Am I too late to get in with the Whole Paycheck comment?

    Always gets the crowd going.

  13. Developers sure overuse the word "luxury" when describing their latest venture. Does luxury mean indoor plumbing and electricity? The location is surrounded by lots and lots of traffic, and it's on the edge of a high-crime area. Oh, and the sewers are always backing up during heavy rains. Wait until the tenants start seeing all the floating crap (and I do mean, crap) bubbling up from the manhole covers. Phew.
