TKC SUNDAY QUESTION: DOUBLE HOBO FIRE IN CROSSROADS REVEALS KANSAS CITY DEVELOPMENT AGENDA FAIL???

A suspicious double fire this weekend reported FIRST IN THE TKC COMMENTS sparks an important question about the reality of local economic development schemes.

But first, here's visual link follow-up report on the blaze and squatter suspects  . . .

Now the reality check . . .

DESPITE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF KANSAS CITY TAXPAYER INVESTMENT - THE CROSSROADS REMAINS OCCUPIED BY SOME VACANT BUILDINGS AND HOBOS ALLEGEDLY STARTING DANGEROUS INFERNOS!!!

Meanwhile, the rest of KCMO copes with busted infrastructure, fewer police, unreliable services from City Hall a great deal of political representation that champions shiny new toys over concern for neighborhoods and community.

To be fair . . . In addition to an alleged 25-million tourists-a-year. Developers claim Kansas City now has "momentum" and continued investment might some day trickle down to taxpayers when bigger projects are completed one day.

THE QUESTION: SHOULD WE FEAR CROSSROADS DOUBLE HOBOS FIRES AS AN INDICATION OF UNDERLYING WEAKNESS IN KANSAS CITY'S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA???

Sadly, amid rampant City Hall spending and very little transparency this quandary is mostly a matter of faith in the rhetoric of political consultants.

In the meantime . . .

Like it or not, the Crossroads and Downtown might be celebrated among civic cheerleaders and politicos looking to move up in the world but more local murders, vacant building fires and the lack of a decent sports bar near the loop reveals that so many Kansas City promises have yet to be fulfilled.

Developing . . .

  1. It could be worse. If it gets cold this year, the homeless are totally going to burn this city to the ground. Then you might some attention to neighborhoods that you want, at least from the fire department.

    2. There goes that 25 million number again. One of the most ridiculous figures that has ever come out Visit KC. As for the hotel fires, not so much concerned about the vacant building but the growing number of homeless in downtown who are obviously causing damage and more crime.
