TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! IS CITY HALL TRYING TO KILL ORDINANCE DEMANDING FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY FROM THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY CONVENTION HOTEL?!?!

Behind the scenes, an ordinance requiring financial disclosure from the new Downtown Kansas City Convention Hotel has created panic among developers and 12th & Oak insiders.

Accordingly . . .

DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY HOTEL SUPPORTERS FIGHT AGAINST FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND DON'T SEEM TO WANT TO SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR TAXPAYER FUNDED EFFORT!!!

Our blog community broke news about this groundbreaking legislation earlier this week . . . The ordinance sponsored by Councilmembers Heather Hall, Katy Shields & Teresa Loar is now on file with the City Clerk's office . . .

However, we noticed something interesting in how this thing in moving along in terms of committee assignments . . .

The legislation was directed toward the Finance and Governance Committee despite most of the hotel talk staring in the Planning, Zoning & Economic Development Committee. This might not seem like a big deal to the uninitiated, but HERE AT TKC WE ARE INITIATED and can easily decipher this kind of petty City Hall theatricality and deception.

The KCMO Finance Committee led by Council Dude Scott Wagner will likely prove a hostile place for this last hope at financial transparency given that so many City Hall Insiders seem to be working diligently for the benefit of developer Mike Burke rather than KC voters and taxpayers.

On the bright side . . . This debate over bond financing and disclosure is an IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL part of the process and might even serve to scare a few bond companies away from this project that doesn't seem to want to share terms with its greatest, longstanding investor - The people of Kansas City.

  9. ^^^ LOL!

EXACTLY correct, this thing is the bankruptcy in the making. I was reading some comments from earlier about the old Vista hotel. I guess nobody in Kansas City remembers the previous mistakes KC has made on this front.

  10. The fact of the matter is, this is not how credible projects progress. It shouldn't take 7 years to build something. "I've worked 7 years on this project and gosh darn it we need this hotel." I am embarrassed for the short sided small minded people who say as much. The person enabling all this dysfunction is the city manager. Secret meetings with Burns and Mac for a non-compete MOU on the airport. When Council stepped in and insisted on an RFP process, the city manager responded that Burns should get a "swiss cheese" chance to counter the other proposers. The audacity of such a statement!! Now he won't make full disclosure on the hotel which IS a public project? KC is corrupt because people allow it to be corrupt. That includes the press who are blind and or ignorant to what is going on. How many new council members this term are there that don't really know how to push back on the city manager? The airport, the hotel, spending issues, secret meetings, lack of disclosure are all part of a greater problem - with the city manager. Time for him to go! Golden parachute and all! People will push you until you push back on them. Quinton, Kevin, Teresa, Katheryn, Heather, Allyissa, Lee, Jermaine get it together and push back on the city manager. It is your responsibility to do so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO ARE THE EQUITY PARTNERS ON THE HOTEL AND WHERE ARE THE PROOF OF FUNDS THEIR MONEY IS IN ESCROW? AND PLEASE NO LETTERS FORM BANKS AND NO TERM SHEETS WITH CARVE OUTS!!!
