TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY STREETCAR SUFFERS THIRD CONSECUTIVE RIDERSHIP DROP!!! 4500 FEWER PASSENGERS IN NOVEMBER!!!

The latest numbers from Kansas City's Downtown Streetcar continue another month of decline.

September 2017 started the year to date drop.

October 2017 ridership reports revealed more than a 13% decline.

Here are the numbers from this month  . . .

According to the KC Streetcar Authority . . .

Total Ridership for November 2016 - 135,107

Just a bit of quick math . . .

The Streetcar reports a decrease of 4583 riders - 3.39% from last year at this time.

To be fair, the streetcar touts 3 million total riders so far.

And so . . .

SHOULD KANSAS CITY BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CONSISTENT DECLINE IN STREETCAR RIDERSHIP?!?!?

Sadly, no other media outlet has reported on this well-documented trend and continues to offer only press release coverage.

  1. TKC, don't forget to report that November was really nice. Temperatures were well above normal!

    1. The experiment has failed. Thankfully, KC is now more concerned with the airport and we've lost interest in this thing. I guess it'll just be left over for now.

    2. It's way too early to call the experiment as failed. We need to keep expanding the line to see if more destinations will add to the ridership count. This was always just a starter line. Now wee need to keep the momentum going!

    3. Yes Go4KC! We certainly don't have failing schools, crumbling infrastrcture or a spike in violent crime! Let's focus on this toy instead!

    4. ^^^ Dood! You must not know how to read. Can't you see that the trend is going downward? Why throw good money after bad?

    5. Go4KC, I don’t know what you’re smoking, but we need to build extensions “to see” if more destinations will increase ridership??? That’s a pretty pricey test doncha think? The city needs to obtain some quality, unbiased research first rather than just shelling out more $$ and “hoping” ridership increases.

  3. Where are the 25 bazillion tourists? Did all the murders affect the numbers? What will sLIE do now? These and many more questions have yet to be answered, stay tuned to this bat station! Lmao!!!

There may not actually be a decline in ridership because the first numbers were so obviously fake. It doesn't matter because it wasn't built as transportation but with the magical belief that it would spur economic development.

    Where are those fake numbers?

  5. Keep it going. The numbers are misleading anyway. It might be a 3.4% decline from last Nov., but you have to look at the larger picture. Assuming half the visitors, per Hon. Sly James' figures to this mecca in the plains, ride the street car, that's 38,400 riders per day. The drop of 4800 averages 150 per day. That's ONLY a decrease of 0.4% This really means nothing to the overall numbers. Yes, I realize I'm running daily averages over the month and year, but it lets us see the big picture. More likely the visitors riding the street car are on a weekend day, probably pushing the daily ridership to exceed 150,000.

  8. The Bandits are robbing and shooting people walking from entertainment districts,When the City gets the crime rate down, all areas will thrive. .

  9. 1:45 pm Do you really want a street car going through Midtown. You are asking for more crime victims. Give them books send them to school. And you still have. ...

  10. We spent 160 million on the starter route, yes 160 million, sLIE conveniently left out the fact that all that work to the sewers, water and additional underground utilities had to be fixed along the way. I can’t stand that the next route planned is going to cost over 230 million. All said this is for less than 6 miles of track for almost 400 million total dollars. I personally am sick of sLIE only fixing the downtown area when the rest of the city is falling apart.

  11. how do they come up with these estimates? Who here has ever seen someone counting or some electronic means of counting riders?

  12. Just wait until they charge to ride the trolley!

    ReplyDelete
  13. ^^^ Why aren't the doing it now. Tell me one good reason why I have to pay for the bus but the streetcar riders are making my fees higher. WTF?

  17. I can not wait to see how much it will cost the tax payers to scrap this idea.

  18. Don't understand all of the hatred against the streetcar, it's one of the most exciting projects in KC. The ridership numbers are an abstraction. I notice that there are not a lot of people here who are talking about the economic development numbers! That is the real story, we are building density and building a better economy in Downtown KC.

    1. If the trolley is such a boon to downtown, and is responsible for this economic explosion you reference, then I’m sure the residents and biz owners of downtown KC will be happy to fund the trolley’s expansion. Right Go4KC?

  19. ^^^ Delusional.

  20. When it goes to 51st and Brookside, the residents of those half million dollar homes will see their property values plummet with the increase in parking problems and crime the streetcar will bring to that neighborhood. That's why the wealthy people in McLean, Virginia million dollar homes didn't allow the Washington D.C. metro to go to Tyson's corner. It's also the reason why buses run on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and there will never be a streetcar near those million dollar condo's.
