SEASON OF DISCONTENT: KCMO MAYOR SLY & JACKSON COUNTY EXEC FRANK WHITE FINISH 2017 LITERALLY ON SOUR NOTE!!!

More than any other trend this week, over the past few days the Kansas City discourse was defined by the top elected officials on 12th & Oak lashing out at their colleagues via the written word.

First up . . .

After Mayor Sly's sketchy airport plan was shot down . . .

The City Hall honcho penned a nasty note to council questioning their commitment to voters.

There was more than a bit of irony in Mayor Sly's words given that he demands transparency whlist his airport talks have been mostly secret AND he started this process by way of a shady no-bid deal with Burns & Mac.

And then . . .

Last night we talked about Exec Frank White denouncing the Jackson County Legislature as "spiteful and irresponsible" in a budget debate that he's losing.

So, what do these notes teach us about elected leaders of both the Courthouse & City Hall???

IN WRITING, MAYOR SLY & EXEC FRANK WHITE HAVE SHOWN KANSAS CITY THAT THEY HAVE LITTLE PATIENCE WITH COLLEAGUES, LACK THE ABILITY TO COMPROMISE AND DEMAND TOTAL SUBMISSION RATHER THAN COOPERATIVE SOLUTIONS!!!

Check their notes - These two politicos are resorting to name calling, spin and allegations about motives rather than arguing with facts or support for their positions.

As we take a look at how this year has played out politically and moving forward . . . Kansas City voters would do well to realize that . . .

Local democracy fails to work by way of minor celebrity and a cult of personality. Instead, big decisions require hard work and cooperation rather than bombastic  pronouncements from on high exemplified by the latest blasts from both Frank & Sly . . .

Again, the future of Kansas City and possibly he nation depends on a tough realization that creating consensus and partnership is crucial for success and far more effective than capitalizing on fleeting popularity.

You decide . . .

    2. ^^^ Sly and Frank are famous for their tantrums. It's only the voting public who is surprised.

    3. I think we see people's true motives in a crisis. When pressed, both Sly and Frank look out for themselves and show little concern for voters or the people they work with every day. It's good to life the curtain from time to time because all that people see is the public persona. We have to expect more from our politicans than just good social media profiles.

  6. 10:41 a.m. poster - the fact that both men are black has nothing to do with their incompetence. We have so many white incompetent leaders. They are just taking a page from Trump & Co. Blast your opponents and never take responsibility for anything.

  9. Is Sly pointing fingers at himself while also looking in the mirror when he said "...political motives", "...not getting what they (uh huh, not council, but what HE and cronies) want", "back-door maneuvers..."?!

See:KSHB41 Sly James 12/15/17 and watch the vid of duck lips having his pout and cry. Santa Claus is coming to town! Yep, lump of coal for BowTie clown!

  14. SYLVESTER JAMES PERSONALITY PROFILE

    Can you say "DYSFUNCTION"?

Grew up on KC's East-side, but did not attend KCMO public schools.
His step-mother was just a few years older than himself.
Married outside his race while still in his teens. Marriage quickly ended in divorce, and he was estranged from his gay son for most of his life.
Joined the military and served as a military police officer for 4 years.
    Bachelors degree from Rockhurst.
Started law school at Syracuse, then transferred to Minnesota. Wonder why?
Became a personal injury attorney in which braggadocio, intimidation, and threats are normal operating procedure.
Married outside his race for a second time.
James has expressed a certain disdain for urban core residents who haven't been able to escape their conditions. Because his family was able to send him to a Catholic high school, he believes those left behind have themselves to blame.
After a successful legal career, he grew bored hanging out on the Plaza drinking scotch, and his narcissism led him to politics.
Was barely elected Mayor in 2011 when only 21-percent of eligible voters participated in the vote. The KC Star endorsed James, while 3 former mayors endorsed Mike Burke.
As soon as he assumed office, James greatly expanded the Mayor's Office budget, redecorated the office, and took on round-the-clock security with KCPD. His predecessor used no security and drove his own personal vehicle, like a regular person.
In 2015, James won re-election when only approximately 10-percent of eligible voters participated. Despite having failed to pay his taxes on time, making him ineligible, a friendly court refused to disqualify him.
Local engineering firm Burns and McDonnell was one, if not the largest, of campaign contributors to James. Subsequently, KCMO financed the company's HQ expansion building and granted a plethora of incentives and tax breaks for the wealthy private corporation.
Mayor James and City Manager Schulte purposely promoted a false narrative to citizens, concerning an exponential rise in their property taxes, in order to force through the $800M GO bond issue.
They used the same tactic to hoodwink taxpayers on the Earnings Tax renewal.
Mayor James pushed through a generous pay increase and contract extension for City Manager Troy Schulte.
Subsequently, James, Schulte, and Councilperson Justus entered into secret talks with Burns and McDonnell in an effort to award them a billion-dollar airport terminal contract. They wanted to give the largest public works project in KCMO history to James' campaign cash benefactor without soliciting bids for the project.
Now, when many on the Council have finally caught on to James' machinations, he lashes out at them like the fat little insecure bully that he's always been.

  15. thank goodness the city council is taking up the leadership vacuum, even though it's partially for personal ambition on their part.

  16. “James has expressed a certain disdain for urban core residents who haven't been able to escape their conditions. Because his family was able to send him to a Catholic high school, he believes those left behind have themselves to blame.”

I can agree with this statement one bazillion percent!!!

  17. At least Sly James goes to the city council meetings. Frank White doesn't go to the county legislative meetings, probably because he makes an ass out of himself trying to trade verbal barbs with the legislators and comes across as a hot head and not too bright. Instead he has somebody else write these awful statements that he cowardly sends out later.

  18. Why does Frank White have a statue at Kaufman?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Actually, the council members who objected to Edgemoor ARE looking out for the voters. It appears they read the MOU and asked questions in order to protect their constituents. OR - this is all a carefully scripted plan to usher Burns & Mac in as the "savior" of the KCI plan.

  20. To quote Mayor James, "You can't lead people who sneak!"

To quote my Friend, "You can't be lead by them either!"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sly and Frank have nobody but themselves to blame for the predicaments they are in.
