KANSAS CITY QUESTION FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS: IS BILL NIGRO THE MAN WHO SAVED WESTPORT VIA STREET PRIVATIZATION???
A somewhat watered down version of Westport street privatization is expected to pass the full council session afteroon and that gives us one last chance to talk about this hot mess before the bars own a good part of the conversation on Midtown Kansas City streets.
Accordingly and with respect to one of the strongest advocates of today's Westport milestone . . .
WILL BILL NIGRO'S PLAN TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF WESTPORT STREETS SAVE THE EMBATTLED KANSAS CITY PARTY DISTRICT???
To be fair, here's one last from our most communication with Mr. Nigro wherein he did agree to offer one line on the record:
Bill Nigro: "I just want to help keep Westport safe, so that we can provide a secure environment to protect EVERYONE who visits . . ."
We've tried to look at both sides of the issue in this debate that sets an important precedent for the entire city.
While other, frivolous columnists and media outlets were busy debating imaginary hip-hop equal rights . . .
Our blog community talked about the implications for public safety and small biz after an off-duty cop was killed in a Westport shooting this year.
And the opposite side of the issue, we offered equal time to local power player white dudes against this KCMO crackdown.
Now it's up to our KCMO elected officials and because they all read this blog . . .
ONE LAST TIME . . . SHOULD KANSAS CITY PRIVATIZE WESTPORT STREETS???
You decide . . .
