KANSAS CITY 'COMPLETE STREETS' ORDINANCE DEMANDS CYCLIST AND PEDESTRIAN ACCOMMODATION!!!

Check the latest Bike/WalkKC advocacy on behalf of gentrification enthusiasts looking for a not-so-clever way to ensure their sidewalks and roadways are addressed before the inner-city pathways . . .

On the bright side, KCMO has made very little overall progress on sidewalk or road improvements promised during this year's GO Bond debate. And, as always, we're all waiting in the same line.

Nevertheless, here's the plan . . .

ORDINANCE NO 170949

The intent of the legislation . . .

The City shall develop a safe, reliable, efficient, integrated, and connected multimodal transportation system that will promote access, mobility, and health for all users and will ensure that the safety and convenience of all users of the transportation system are accommodated, including pedestrians, bicyclists, users of public transportation, wheelchair users, and people of all ages and abilities. Additionally, the City shall incorporate green infrastructure, innovative stormwater management, and street trees in transportation projects when applicable. All City owned streets, bridges, traffic signals, and similar transportation facilities will include sidewalks with appropriate pedestrian accommodations, and the City’s bicycle master plan and walkability plan shall be implemented during new or reconstruction of transportation facilities within the City limits.

Translation . . .

Cars will soon take a back seat to cyclists wherever middle-class "progressive" people live . . .

  1. If it doesn’t involve downtown it won’t get done

  2. I will support the rights of bike riders when they pay to use the roads as the rest of us do and learn to follow the rules of the road as the rest of us are expected to do. If a road has a special lane for bikes to use then that's where they need to be not spread out all over the place backing traffic up. They should be required when approaching a red light or stop sign to get in line and wait their turn not pass everyone on the right then dart out ahead of everyone jacking up the flow of the intersection. Thy want all these special things then they need to support them and be held accountable for operating a bike in traffic.

  3. Eventually, streets will need to be reconfigured totally, imho. That is, they'll be largely one-way with new, broad sidewalks; GPS will guide cars on the most efficient route so one-way will be fine. it will be nirvana for bicyclists and walkers.

    Super Dave,
I usually agree with you but not this time.
Bicycles don't damage the road. They don't weigh as much as your fat ass sitting in your truck.

  5. fuck the bike riders

  6. Of course this is a great idea. ...and, of course, you wont see the fat asses on the commission bicycling or walking anywhere there isn't a buffet.

  7. Super Dave sitting in a truck? Wow are you ever stupid and clueless. By the way I know Dave is a bike rider as well and I mean a top of the line ride so he is just a little knowledgeable on the subject and serious about it or he wouldn't have spent that kind of money on a bike. But he is just stating the facts that many others also think is right.

  8. ^^Hey Stupid Dave, did you know that is possible to have a style of writing? Meaning, that even those you post anonymously, we can still tell it's you? Did you also know that you leave a distinct pattern? Whenever some criticizes you(which admittingly is a lot) an anonymous post appears right after extolling the virtues of yourself. Come on man, give it up!

  9. The cyclists are just another bunch of pigs at the crowded trough that is KC politics. They in reality care nothing for the environment.

  10. It's amazing that Moody's, the credit-rating agency, is warning cities to prepare for global warming or suffer a credit rating downgrade. If KC is going to prepare for the great warming headed our way over the next 1-5 decades, it would be evacuation, not raising roads above floodplains and encouraging walking and cycling.

  11. Remember the bike path along Merriam Lane. Great expense, years waiting, and now a glass and gravel tire shredder because of weak road cleaning. Programs have to have quality maintenance built in.

  12. Don't believe for a moment the "Bike/Walk Kansas City" gives a shit about walkers! They are exclusively concerned about bicycle riders, and like all Bike Nazis only view the walking people as inconvenient speed bumps.

Stop caving in to their arrogance!

  14. I swear 11:11 with that brain you claim to have you should be to busy making millions to come up with crap like that. Do you think KCPD would hire you to help solve all their unsolved cases?

  15. Marcus Peters. He is a great community guy that all the Veterans love.
He is in total control and a great example for kids and sportsmanship.
He will help out.... and hopefully quit football and move to a cave in Saudi Arabia.
