TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! URBAN PLANNERS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVISTS RALLY AGAINST WESTPORT STREET PRIVATIZATION!!!

The fate of Kansas City's oldest party district is now a concern among urban activists of all sorts.

To wit . . .

BEHIND THE SCENES THERE'S A GROWING MOVEMENT AGAINST WESTPORT STREET PRIVATIZATION THAT'S GARNERING MOMENTUM AMONG ACTIVISTS AND URBAN PLANNERS!!!

Confirmation . . . A recent letter writing campaign forwarded to the KCMO City Plan Commission urges the City Council to keep Westport streets away from private biz control.

Recent updates to the privatization proposal have also garnered the interest of urban planners who worry about bar biz encroaching on resident right of way access . . .

More interestingly . . .

ACTIVISTS CALL THIS MOVEMENT "THE WESTPORT VACATION" AND HAVE STARTED TO FIND COMMON GROUND WITH SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTIVISTS AGAINST STREET PRIVATIZATION!!!

Translation . . . Progressives with different interests are teaming up on this crusade in order to protect imaginary "hip-hop clientele" and other manifestations of identity politics. Eventually, this argument is on a course to call even more people racist amid declining profits and less public interest in this part of town.

On the other side of this sordid story, a cop killed over the Summer and violence throughout 2017 in Westport have heated up the discussion.

In fairness . . .

INSIDERS CONTEND THAT WESTPORT BIZ IS COMPLETELY UNITED IN DEMANDING STREET PRIVATIZATION AS A SOLUTION TO GROWING CRIME IN THIS EMBATTLED PARTY DISTRICT!!!

A quick glimpse at their argument . . .

And so, the fight for Westport continues only this time it's a beef among biz vs. progressive idealists instead of just the commonplace Midtown weekend shootout . . .

The Westport street vacation is on hold until next hearing on 11/29.

  1. street rental not privitization is the solution.

The streets belong to the public but if business is doing a good job maintaining their environments they should be able to RENT some of the public property.

But just handing over the streets to them sends a bad precedent.

    1. Metal detectors won't solve Westport problems.

      That's just a fantasy.

They want stop and frisk to send a message. They should probably just move to Johnson County.

    2. ^^^ Actually, not a bad idea. Let everyone go to 18th & Vine. See how that works out for you. Good luck!

  2. Call it what it is: Government assistance for racial profiling.

  4. Black people are never happy, until they destroy everything around them. The need to bring the world down to their level, is a narcissistic, entitled mind set, that is part genetic, partly taught, but mostly schadenfreude. The realization, that they are crippled by fate and tossed in amongst their betters, is egotistical pain that can only be assuaged by the suffering of others.

Caught in a plantation mentality, they accept unjustified money and aid from those whites who work to support government programs, and, have ironically made themselves slaves once again.

    They deserve no better.

  5. I don't want Bill Nigro owning any part of Kansas City. Let him rent.

  6. Byron would have us all believe that he is a spokesman for victims and that victims = virtue. That victims are all around by way of evil white design.
That he has "gone native" and understands the plight of his black brothers. In truth, he is just lazy and has accepted the same payouts provided for blacks in lieu of an honest days work and any modicum of a contribution to societal welfare in the acceptance of welfare.

  7. Let's not make this thread about Byron again. Get your own room, you racists are so easily baited.

How can we save Westport instead of just handing it over the bars? That's the bigger question.

  8. I'm pretty sure the streetcar and the airport will make this a moot point. KC has "momentum" and this will solve all of the violence. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Privatize those Westport streets. It cannot happen fast enough. We'd love to shop and eat there again.

Get that one set up, and do the same thing with the Plaza.

    Rinse and repeat.

We're sick to death of the crime, violence and mouthy people walking 5 deep, side by side, compelling us to walk around them.

    Behave. Or get out.

  10. Blacks ruin everything

  11. 10:39 Pretending that Westport merchants are not trying to privatize the area because of the violent black element down there now, that has, destroyed shopping area's, literally by the tens of thousands all over the United States makes you, a coward, but does, in no way make me a racist, it makes me a realist.

Refusing to discuss the "Elephant in the room", even after he shits and stomps on you and all of your Progressive friends, not only makes you a coward, whose only recourse is ad hominem attacks in the face of facts, it reveals you for the idiot you are.

  12. The real "victims" here, are the merchants, bar owners included, who are invested in the area and have had to deal with violent blacks and a politically correct American Zeitgeist which places the whim and caprice of malicious, malevolent, self appointed "activists" and "woke" politicians in front of the safety and well being of it's citizens and business people.

There is one, and one problem only that has driven Westport Merchants to this precipice - Black Violence.

  13. Support KC Biz11/13/17, 10:58 AM

Why are we even having this debate? KC needs to support the people who bring in REVENUE! That's where the city gets its money. Why are we working to people who are trying to destroy that? Or these theorists who don't have a stake in a real business in the district? Let's make things better for Kansas City business, not just put obstacles in their way.

    ReplyDelete
  14. They are trying to destroy Westport because they stood up against the constant black violence, this pisses off the blacks and progressives because they think they can destroy any business that doesn’t cater to there every whim and their destructive ways. PRIVATIZE NOW!

Don't forget your hands and feet can be weapons as well. .YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE METAL DETECTION IF SOMEONE COMES IN THAT HAS WATCHES TO MANY STEVEN SEGAL MOVIES WANTS TO GET DRUNK AND FIGHT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. SATURDAY NIGHTS,ALRIGHT FOR FIGHTING GET A LITTLE ACTION IN.WHY GO TO WESTPORT ON THE WEEKENDS AT NIGHT I CAN THINK OF A HUNDRED MORE PLEASANT PLACES TO HAVE FUN. GOOD FOOD AND DRINKS.

  16. What we need are the specifica of this plan. Who will be responsible for security, policing, investigation of incidents and traffic accidents, maintenance, regulation? Who will be responsible for liability claims, maintenance, snow removal, signing? Who will inspect or enforce basic standards of maintenance. We have folks arguing on both sides and so far we have absolutely NO specifics on how this will work.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Once again - shut down all Bars in town at midnight, except for those in the 18th and Vine District, keep those open until 3:00 am.

This kicks the problem back into the sewer at about the time it starts being a problem.

  18. Could you define "indidivudal," please, and thanks. I pronounce it in-diddy-vu-dal.

  20. I as well believe shorter operating hours for the bars is needed. 1am at the most is long enough time to get your drunk on. If it isn't go home and finish it there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Close the bars at 1:00 am for whites. 4:00 am for blacks . Then the blacks can rob and shoot each other

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why do bars need to stay open that late?

Why can't a couple of police units with 4 men to each just start working the area and working it hard. Have a paddy wagon on a side street to throw those who can't behave into if the need arises. Spot check those acting up let it be known those there to cause trouble will find it only it won't be what they envisioned.

Many other cities do this all over the world to control so called party areas why can't Kansas City do so.

    Simple 101 police work.

  23. What does Jolie think about this or is she too busy eating pussy? She does eat a lot of pussy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Just close it down for a year or two, until the bar owners start taking charge of the customers rather than turning it over to public police. Run your business or leave.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Go ahead and privatize the streets. Will see you all in court
