TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! RANKING KANSAS CITY WINNERS AND LOSERS AFTER EPIC NEW SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT VICTORY!!!

Voters have approved the biggest Kansas City public works project of the modern era and the only thing that's left is the crying over the lack of small biz contracts and inevitable anticlimactic disappointment which has marked virtually every aspect of local life since the advent of the steam engine.

Don't believe TKC??? How about those Royals and/or Chiefs???

But most importantly . . .

TKC FACT CHECK: THERE WAS NO ORGANIZED OPPOSITION TO THE SINGLE-TERMINAL NEW AIRPORT ELECTION VICTORY!!!

So, before we start talking about campaign genius or a voter mandate . . . Let's not forget that a handful of grassroots activist opponents of Question #1 cobbled together less than $15K to power their fight . . . You can literally steal that much from City Hall and not face any jail time. These good-hearted activists did not have a campaign office, one yard sign or purchase a single TV commercial.

Again, like most things involving Kansas City . . . Landslide "victory" is merely a result of a lack of competition.

But I digress  . . .

HERE'S THE DEFINITIVE KANSAS CITY GUIDE TO WINNERS AND LOSERS IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE AIRPORT VOTE!!!

Reader mileage may vary but this is a better place than any to partake in the blame game:

The New Airport Single-Terminal Winners:

Or, another reason to hate your boss . . .

The Kansas City Corporate Oligarchy

All of the major law firms, construction and electrical giants and even engineering firms edged out of the mix BOUGHT THIS ELECTION for about TWO-MILLION BUCKS - That's chump change compared to the BILLION DOLLAR PAYOUT  but the investment comes at the cost of anything really resembling local democracy. Now Kansas City hopes the trickle-down voodoo economics will help lift the rest of this town or at least provide some better junk food options for tourists. Good luck with that . . .

Mayor Sly James

He's the man who sold Kansas City and there is no denying his election win streak amid voter suspension of disbelief regarding the fact that they won't be paying for this new airport in the long run.

Mean Tweets & The Kansas City Spambot Social Media Bandwagon

Social media might not have had much of an impact on voters but the online discourse funds low rent advocates and Internets denizens scraping for a few bucks . . . Look closely at #NewKCI and it's mostly spam from people who stand to benefit financially from the new airport our are beholden to elected officials . . . However, the low-rent marketers deserve credit for their small part in an election triumph.

The Local Losers:

The cast of Kansas City denizens and their good intentions . . .

KCPT Election Documentary Movies

This one is important because nearly two-dozen of you d-bags kept sending TKC the stupid link . . .

THIS SHOULD BE BE THE LAST TIME KANSAS CITY CONSERVATIVES ATTEMPT TO WIN AN ELECTION WITH A BORING DOCUMENTARY!!!

These goofy British voice-over movies are mostly funded by viewers like Crosby Kemper III and they have proven to have ABSOLUTELY ZERO INFLUENCE OVER ANYONE. The cinematography and narrative is brilliant and but Public TV content is for old ladies and their pets. It's time for a small minority of old money voters stop celebrating their custom-made programming that doesn't move the crowd.

Kansas City Tax Fighters

Just as we noted at the outset of this vote . . . A litany of furious e-mails or even talk show chatter doesn't work WITHOUT CAMPAIGN INFRASTRUCTURE, A GROUND GAME AND A BIG MEDIA PLAN . . .  Don't get it twisted, these locals fought the good fight but were no match for a traditional campaign and all of the vital payoffs which that entails.

Kansas City Political Consultants

Pat Gray and Steve Glorioso have departed Kansas City for the sweet hereafter and taken the legacy of local political consulting with them.

The big local elections are now dominated by out-of-town national firms.

The Dover Group doesn't really bother with Council candidates and doesn't have much of a stake in Kansas City beyond their allegiance to Mayor Sly . . . They collected their fees and ran a cold, heartless but ultimately effective campaign in service of big KC companies . . .

THIS ELECTION PROVES THAT THE KANSAS CITY POLITICAL CONSULTING CLASS IS DEAD!!!

Again, mean tweeters and social media cash mostly funneled to and thru Russian-Spy-Network-Facebook is the only real avenue available for local professionals who profit in persuasion.

On the bright side . . . All of the TKC airport discussions turned out pretty well but we don't endorse election issues one way or another despite the fun we had in celebrating the fashions of Council Lady and Mayoral candidate Jolie Justus . . .

What about that guy in the comments yesterday who said he watched his wife vote? Do you think she really poisoned him to death? Somewhere in KC there's a guy who'll be drinking Clorox for the next month and not know it. It pays to be nice to people!

There were some pretty good comments about the real financial impact of this new airport.

One commenter in particular took apart the loan structure and the interest involved in servicing that kind of debt. Eventually the bill will fall to the city despite all of the assurances. That was important to know and might have been the only real journalism in Kansas City during 2017.

  7. Voters just bought a pig in a poke. We don't even know what the new airport is going to look like, aside from the pretty pictures. We don't have ANYTHING in writing from any of the players in this dumbass drama. I'm sure that the people who actually use the airport on a regular basis (JoCo and other out-of-town residents) will be disappointed with the end result. And, don't forget, it will be years of destruction followed by construction for the users. Have a nice day.

  8. Another Midtown Mom11/8/17, 10:35 AM

The schools are to blame because they didn't teach our students or our community critical thinking skills. Tony laid it out perfectly, you have to bribe people to win elections in Kansas City. The voter turnout wasn't even 20% and that's among registered voters who are the small minority in KC. This election was a farce and I would hope that we can have more intelligent conversations in KC Mo. Sadly, that's not going to happen because the only "new" site that seems halfway knowledgeable about KC issues also loves big breasted women with big asses just as much.

A lot of commenters on here chuck, tracy, super dave and some who remained anonymous made some really kick ass points about the new airport plan. Too bad the local media all hobbed nobbed to the current regime of corrupt political hacks running this city. Personally, I am done with Kansas City, I have a meeting with a realtor later today and I am out of here. Soon as I and the wife get settled I will move my business as well. The wife is going to start looking elsewhere for a job. I hope the 80% of the voters who didn't vote like how high their taxes go up when people like myself leave paying all this junk to you.

  39. Too little, to late, but as a local resident for most of my life I am horrified that this billion $ faux pas winning by such a large margin. It's laughable almost, reading the Star with so many opinion pieces [in favor of the new airport] thinly disguised as news. And how about any surveying, man-on-the-street type reporting actually done at KCI? The 3-airport hopscotch story idea must've been fun, but comparisons of any newer facilities with the 45-year-old airport seemed rigged from the start. As for these thinly-veiled remarks about the airport being 'dark and drab' and 'antiquated' ... Taking out the light blonde wood parquet floor and replacing it with midnight-blue tile flooring swallowed up most of the abundant natural light from the many skylights scattered throughout the terminals. As far as being supposedly out-of-date and countrified, is anyone aware that our airport was designed to handle the Concorde, no less? Check out a Star story from a few years back on the history of the airport and you'll see.
Enough as the damages are well done. It was almost laughable to hear the Star and other outlets trying to justify the need, with out-of-sight cracks in the concrete, unexplained ectrical problems and leaks et al.. were they a billion dollar problem? This all came down to security, cramming 3, 4 or 5 gates gates into one bloated security line, whether budget or whatever contributing, these could have been easily spread out. S-west drank the Kool-aid too, while legitimanlyneeding more gates for higher-capacity jets.. well why not expand to the other near-empty terminals? Better restaurants and amenities could have been folded into these expanded gate areas with some imagination, and $ of course. But $1 billion? Don't blame KCI when most of its so-called travails come down to 9/11 (and prior) security mandates and abominations that have made flying- at once a dignified and thrilling experience- into what it is today. Not to mention all the gilded pockets of those who neither have a vested interest in the airport, nor the city, past, present or future. The one-minite walk from the Delta gate to baggage claim will certainly be no more.

    ReplyDelete
  40. If you don't think KCMO taxpayers will be paying for the new airport I'd love to hear your opinion on which pro sports team will be filling the Sprint Center.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Too bad this blog has to undergird itself with smut.. let 6:05 "Yawn" go back to his proclivities and perhaps some intelligent debate can continue. Such as the 34-gate proposal.. disagreements abound, but there are more than 60 potential gates at the old KCI with an original design capacity of 90. So where will all the imagined new flights and huge jets park with just 34 gates available at the new, shiny like a penny billion + $ KCI? Like Prince, mb we could name it'The Airport-
Formerly Known as KCI.' The deal is done yet mb.. just mb.. it's not too lare for lawsuits to be filed over the bumbling, conflict-of-interest-laden questionable path it took to get here.. not to mention the public deception. Lastly a wide-enough vote margin to suggest stuffing the ballot box. The opposition rests.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Lived here all my life. Loved KC until growth, growth, growth with no sustainability.
Been in every airport in the country and more, KCI was my favorite. Never walked more than 200 feet for anything.
Bet you will have to walk a mile in the new single terminal.
    Idiots.
