TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY OUTRAGE OVER NEW AIRPORT HYPE E-MAIL BLAST!!! DID CITY MANAGER TROY SCHULTE CROSS THE LINE WITH THIS ELECTION NOTE TO EMPLOYEES???

Internets controversy over online electioneering in favor of the New Airport Question #1 now confronts City Manager Troy Schulte.

First word of this hot mess started among our KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY . . .

"City Manager Troy Schulte sent out an email telling all 4400 city employees should vote and make sure their family members vote for the airport. They even printed it off and showed me. Is this coercion or a threat???"

Another KICK-ASS observation:

"Looks an awful lot like electioneering with city $$'s...."

The common defense of these e-mails is that there is no direct call to action . . .

However, the City Manager repeats all of the campaign talking points from "Better KCI" effort despite intense debate over these talking points by voters across KCMO . . .

THANKS TO OUR BLOG COMMUNITY . . . CHECK THIS LINK FEATURING TROY'S CONTROVERSIAL COMMUNICATION AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF . . .

DID THE CITY MANAGER CROSS THE LINE AND ENGAGE IN CITY HALL ELECTIONEERING?!?!

Here's a screenshot of the questionable digital blast . . .

Also, it's not nice when a public official starts giving de facto orders to workers and their families . . .

City Manager Troy Schulte: "If all 4,400 City employees turned out to vote and brought just one other person with them, the outcome of this election would be determined by just the vote of City employees!"

You decide . . .

  1. A shame is what it is.

    That's not his job.

He shouldn't be developing hotels or meddling in elections. His job is to run KC's operations not be a cheerleader.

It's time for him to go.

This should be the last straw for Council.

I'm honestly undecided about the airport, but I don't have any doubts about this e-mail. It's DEFINITELY out of line.

  2. It has been past time for Troy to leave City Hall. He and his staff have become entrenched and they think they run the place. This e-mail is just one part of questionable actions from the CM.

  4. When did urging or encouraging people to do something become bullying and coercion? I am so tired of politicians twisting facts to make the ignorant and lazy march to their evil drumbeat.

^^^ You obviously do not know anything about the very strict rules against electioneering in KCMO.

City Hall employees are reprimanded constantly for getting into politics. They don't even like us having campaign signs in our yards at home!

This wasn't just a "make sure to vote" reminder. He's using airport talking points on City Hall resources. He should be FIRED!

  6. City employees need to vote NO. City government is under staffed because of agenda of developers first and city services last.

  7. if no taxpayer money is being used than why do we have to vote on it ?
    something smells fishy

  8. The most fucked up neighborhood in KC has to be at 12th and Oak downtown, with City Hall right across the street from the Jackson County Courthouse. Frank White has a whole PR staff at the county that crosses the line every damn day.

  9. 10:17 because one of the crazies from this site (Dan Coffey) got an ordinance passed that there would be a vote ... so the reason you have to vote is because of the same NO vote crowd.

  10. Agree with MM here, I am still making up my mind about the airport but I do not think that city employees should be using our resources to push their campaign ideas one way or another. That sets a dangerous precedent.

  11. The City Manager likely stands to get a big payday from the airport deal. The new airport was never about anything Kansas City needed. Like all development where the City is a partner....it is about getting money flowing into politician's and friends' pockets. If you look at the loudest supporters of the new airport.....all of them stand to reap financial gain. Follow the money ....through forensic audits of the shell corporations and you will find his name or the name of a relative, and likewise the names of current local or former career politicians who have no other way of making a living or amassing fortunes than off of our tax dollars.

  14. How much are voters being paid? If it's the usual, I'm not bothering.

  15. Question I have;

If any other city employee were to use city letterhead to encourage fellow employees to say vote for a candidate against the current elected Mayor would they not face disciplinary actions?

While Troy makes sure his exact words don't say vote YES the intent is well defined as to how he expects the employees and their friends to vote.

Troy says, "If all 4,400 City employees turned out to vote and brought just one other person with them, the outcome of this election would be determined by just the vote of City employees!" Now to me you can't be much clearer in that he expects you to vote for it. What would be a hoot is if all employees would bring a friend and all vote no.

  16. Many thousands of letters signed by Mr. Troy have been sent on KC letterhead to homeowners with aggressive pressure to buy water line insurance. The pervasive corruption and lies from City Hall is reason enough to vote no, no and hell no.

Star reports today that "...$240,000,000 in bonding capacity remains from last big overhaul in the early 2000s(sic)."

A lot of remodeling could have been done for that amount; but KC would rather cater to big construction firms like B&M.

  20. City Employees should understand that when City Hall goes bankrupt like Detroit due to the same reason.....corruption, their well earned pensions will be reduced as municipal retirees in Detroit found out. Backing these developments with the full faith and credit of Kansas City means just that!

    1. Sure, B'lieRON, you'll defend a fellow fraudster. This CM showed himself to be another crooked crony kissass who's sneaky sh*t with S'lie left the complete council out of their attempted bid rigging for BM. That council should take "Terminate Me Tantrum Troy" up on his offer and can him so he can get his supposed "better sleep" and "bigger paychecks"...Ha, NOT if the NO votes kill the single-terminal.

  24. That was a really stupid thing to do. If the airport question wins in a close vote, Schulte's email diktat will be used to argue that the results should be overturned. Such hubris.

  25. It doesn't matter if he did this or not. The single terminal airport will be built.
