Has Kansas City Forgotten Veterans Day???

Not so long ago, Veterans Day used to be a big deal in Kansas City.

Take a look at this old school march down local streets . . .

But even more recently than that . . . Baby Boomers can remember bigger gatherings and parades for Vets in Kansas City.

Today, there's a low rent political rally and free admission to Liberty Memorial . . . A few forced school assemblies that all of the popular students skip, a fun-run over the weekend and that's about it.

As Afghanistan becomes a FOREVER WAR and Internets debates over football pre-game patriotism have dominated the discourse this year . . .

DOES KANSAS CITY DO ENOUGH TO HONOR VETERANS DAY???

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Probably not.

But it's a little cold for a parade at this time of the year.

  2. I just wish there was some kind of mention of the military during our professional sporting events.

Seems like a real missed opportunity to me.

  3. You're joking right? We kiss veteran ass every fucking day in this country. Free health care for life, pensions, "oh thank you for your service," Jesus Christ on a pogo stick.

  4. We should always be grateful for our Veteran's sacrifices--but Israel should be even more grateful, since it's Israel's enemies that we've been fighting for nearly 30 years now.

  5. 8:37 and 9:00 must have had to work today. Go fuck yourselves. I'm about to drink beer and watch the Price is Right. Then, I'm gonna raise my flag and give beer to my veteran neighbors. Enjoy work today fags.

  6. I am a vet & you can suck my balls ya twinkle toed maggot. I would not march for you non-hacking shitballs & I despise most civilian trash who do not deserve the sacrifice of our wounded & dead. So you can kiss my ass this fine day. A part of me would love to see the camel greasin muzzie horde turned loose on your ass so you could experience the hospitality of your muzzie Obama supporting murderers in real life 24-7. But I am going shooting today, my semi-auto rifle in hand, remembering all the Marines & Navy corpsman I knew who were killed or badly injured, maimed for life, & all yall snowflakes, maggots, dipshits, can kiss my ass. Happy Birthday USMC.

  7. Pray tell, 9:00, how does Afghanistan help Israel in any way, shape or form? Or Panama? Haiti? Somalia? Niger? The U.S. military is all over the world, and it's almost always about $. Face it, you're an anti-Semite, plain and simple. And it's affecting your reasoning.

  8. Bring back the Draft, that'll teach these whiny little pissants what their cozy life and their freedom really costs! But this time don't allow exemptions for the rich kids, require everyone to serve either two years military service or two and a half years "National Service" (CCC-type infrastructure work,) with mandatory induction on either graduation from High School or reaching their eighteenth Birthday.

In the meantime, call on Congress and the President to declare a victory in the "war on terror" and end this GODDAMN UNWINNABLE FOREVER WAR!

SUPPORT OUR MILITARY, BRING THEIR ASSES HOME!

  9. psssstt..douche-fuck @ 8:37 -- only vets with service-connected disabilities are eligible for (shitty) VA health care -- only lifers with 30 years get pensions..

so get your facts straight , faggot

  10. 10:20, I don't think that's correct. I know of veterans who are not disabled, service-connected or otherwise, who have gotten free health care at the VA Hospital. Some of it was very expensive health care (e.g. major surgery). My understanding is, free care is available to all veterans when funding is available.

And, military pensions are not dependent on 30 years' active duty. Eligibility starts at 20 years, however the amount is actuarily reduced on retirements before 30.

  12. Just wonder what that fucking Bergdahl is doing on this Veterans day weekend ? Probably laughing his ass off!

  13. The military is an employer just like any other.
The myth of the HERO WARRIOR is largely that, a myth.
They're hired dogs, and I'm grateful there are those willing to take the job.
But more deserving of the daily asskissing they get than low paid nurses, teachers and social workers?
    Nope, not in my view.
They take a job, and they get paid for it.
    Same as you and I.

  14. Your job gives you the choice between Prison or going to a shithole to get shot at?

Might want to re-think your attitude, buttwad!

    ReplyDelete
  15. You took the job because it suited your desires and aptitude, same as every one else.

You took orders for 4 years or so becasue that's what you're good at.

  16. ^^ you two "buttwads" need to get a room, because it's obvious from your comments that neither of you have served in the military.

  17. Glad to see America finally showing appreciation to veterans for their courageous service. I recall when the so-called "Greatest Generation" dumped all over the Vietnam vets when they came home from that crappy war they sent them to. Glad to see attitudes change.

Thank all of you for your service,, and have a great Veteran's Day!

You don't have to go to the VA.

You can go to a real hospital.

  20. We are already over thanking them: http://www.crfb.org/blogs/are-veterans-benefits-too-generous

    ReplyDelete
  21. Free health should be offered only for service connected injuries. Let them hustle for health care like the rest of us.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ^^^ uh, that's the case now, genius. And the "free health care" is only at a VA clinic/hospital; most of us don't live close to one, so we pay for our health care just like you.

  23. God bless every vet who has served or is serving our country. Your service and sacrifice is appreciated.
