TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY COFFEE SHOP 'ONE MORE CUP' POSTS INSPIRING LOCAL COFFEE GAME PERSPECTIVE AS STARBUCKS MOVES TO BROOKSIDE!!!

Here's a bit of good local news and a glimpse at the true spirit of competition from Kansas City small biz that deserves to be appreciated and savored.

Checkit . . .

ONE MORE CUP PENS A HOPEFUL BUT DEFIANT COMMENT REGARDING STARBUCKS NEARBY!!!

Take a look at the best reaction to the Starbucks Brookside move:

"This isn't scary to us. It's disappointing, since we love that Brookside and Waldo has been mostly small, unique, locally-owned joints. There has been a trend of non-local property owners in the area who don't really seem to actually know the neighborhoods they buy in. We hope people continue striving to support and buy local, but...

People will go to this Starbucks. They'll also go to The Roasterie, Bella Napoli, Second Best, Crows, One More Cup. Each shop will have the people who swear it's the best, who swear it's the worst, and everything in between. We are going to keep doing what we do - talking with people, serving up great drinks and snacks, and being ourselves. No other shop will make or break us, just our own actions will. Drink what makes you happy, and where you feel good."

The reality is that "One More Cup" offers a unique experience that no other local place can replicate. They hire great, friendly people and serve their customers with a lot of care . . . The same can't be said of Starbucks.

Even better, of all the coffee places in KC . . . The One More Cup Instagram actually feels like it's operated by a REAL person and in this day and age of corporate-speak . . . That is noteworthy.

As always, we want our blog community to support local biz and this bit of bravery in the face of a mega-corporation is one of the reasons why.

You decide . . .

  1. there are a ton of great coffee places in Waldo/Brookside. This is actually a miscalculation from the corporation.

Longtime Kansas City residents remember how they set up shop in Westport but quickly abandoned their efforts.

Why? Because the coffee and the service suck. That's always a recipe for failure.

    1. I totally agree with you about the great service and wonderful people at One More Cup.

But the Starbucks Drive-Thru is going to DESTROY all of the other coffee places in the area. Not everybody wants to sit down for hours and hang out at a coffee shop. A lot of people just want something slightly better than a vending machine and they want to be on their way. If the Brookside places were smart, those with the ability would have set up a drive thru long ago.

Mark my words, the drive-thru is the killer app and what will keep Starbucks destroying their competition.

    2. wrong, I think the drive-thru hurts Quiktrip more than anyone else.

    3. Unbakery on 63rd serves delicious coffee/lattes/etc. and had a drive through!

  2. I'm not sure why this is a big deal. If it works, it works. If it doesn't Starbucks will relocate.

  3. It’s going in where Mr Goodcents is, so no drive-thru. It will survive, because Panera and Jimmy Johns survive. Not sure why they do when there is much better bertter to be had just steps away.

  4. I go to One More Cup when I am close and it is early. Excellent in my opinion.

Patronizing an establishment that patronizes you is not my cup of coffee.

I don't need a "Conversation on Race" with Baby Faced Baristas BEFORE I have my fuckin coffee. Every couple of years I am forced to meet a customer there and I always give my name as "A girl has no name".

The owner says he is thinking about running for president.

The etiolated piece of shit no doubt thinks that if you are white and order cream on any of those sissy drinks and don't feel guilty about it, then you're a racist.

Maybe Starbucks will run a promotion where it's Progressive clientele will get half off of their daily $15.00 special if you order it while taking a knee.

One More Cup should feature "Confefe" Coffee. It should be Cuban Coffee from Gitmo, ground up for free by former terrorists and served with "White Privilege Whip Cream".

    1/2 price for Caucasians.

  5. Not many people who like good coffee like Starbucks. As far as I'm concerned I don't want them in Kansas city anywhere, plus their coffee is gross, they suck customers in the Target and grocery stores because they can't make it with their free standing stores.

  11. ^^^^Excellent point! I also cringe at some of the over-the-top orders (I.e. “Venti Iced Skinny Hazelnut Macchiato, Sugar-Free Syrup, Extra Shot, Light Ice, No Whip.” Everyone thinks they’re a Kartrashian nowadays.

  12. When it really comes down to it, drip coffee served out of a clean Mr. Coffee machine and served with a bit of milk and maybe sugar is GOAT.

The idea that people stop everyday for coffee is insane. The idea that people go to a Coffee shop once or twice a week to hang out/socialize/chill actually makes a bit of sense.

  13. 11:46 PM Does in fact have a valid point. Unless you put some cream and sugar in that Starbucks anymore it tastes like witch acid brew.
