TKC READER: RISING TIDE OF KANSAS CITY CONTRADICTIONS ON NEW AIRPORT TALK!!!

From one of our best and brightest readers, here's a FANTASTIC take on City Hall double talk on the proposed new airport and local contracting.

Checkit:

Blast From The Past

Take a look at this brief clip from an old KCPT KCWIR program discussing no-bid contracts for the Water Services Dept. and the KC Streetcar construction.

Juxtapose what's being discussed here, with the current debate regarding the KCI single-terminal proposal.

Things to note:

Mayor James had no problem giving an out-of-town (Chicago) company the $12 million-dollar no bid contract to improve customer service in the Water Department.

Mayor James had no problem giving out-of-town companies the great bulk of construction business for the KC Streetcar.

Currently, on the KCI terminal project he's insistent that a "KC-based solution is the best choice for a KC challenge." Isn't that a flip-flop? Does Mayor James only give contracts to those who give him campaign contributions?

Isn't it interesting that one of the panel guests, Kevin Collison, formerly with The Kansas City Star, joined Burns and McDonnell after leaving the Star?

If a $12 million-dollar no-bid city contract was significant enough to warrant a discussion by KCPT, The Kansas City Star, and local television investigative reporters, wouldn't you think that they would have been raising a "ruckus" over a $1.2 billion-dollar no-bid slam-dunk attempt by Mayor James, City Manager Schulte, and Councilwoman Justus?

Why has KC media been so docile during this overt collusion between KCMO political leadership and Burns and McDonnell?

  2. There has been no perceptible resultant effect of the $12 million-dollar no bid contract to improve customer service in the Water Department. No changes or improvements were ever proclaimed by any of the media.

What did happen is that a flood of mailings began coming from Chicago and other locales wanting every KCMO property owner to buy water line insurance. The last several years the letters have been official looking letters from the City Manager. Why is Troy Schulte promoting private insurance?

My take is that the $12 million was used to setup private companies to sell this insurance. Who are the silent partners in this scam?
First of the worst usual suspects are Slyme, Mike "Baby Pendergast" Burke, Troy Boy, Inglorious Steve and the Clowncil.

Since Todd Graves was removed as U.S. Attorney the Feds have been silent. Is anybody there? Does anybody care?

Isn't it interesting you don't bother to mention he's not there anymore? But I'm sure he still gets his BIG BAGS OF DEVELOPMENT MONEY weekly!

You guys all sound so incredibly stupid anymore. Like a nursery full of crying babies.

  4. When the Sprint Center was being considered and built that were promises of using local MBE and WBE companies for construction and as vendors for the operation. As soon as it was built all the locals were told to take a hike. I was one of them. I was told by the company running Sprint Center that they had national supplier contracts for all the commodities and services used there. The same thing will happen with the airport.

Every time there is a city taxpayer funded project with promises made to use local labor and companies the promises are broken. Why would this time be any different? I'm voting NO.

  5. I have to laugh at Dave Helling saying something to the effect; "it is the responsibility of the media to hold city officials accountable".. Where is he during all the Justus \' ethics issues???

  8. Kansas City has not had a decent reporter since Russ Ptacek left for D.C. Local print and TV reporters just run press releases from City Hall.

  9. 2:54 PM You have the City Council to thank for waiving the M/WBE goals on the Sprint Arena project. This effort was led by Mayor Kay Barnes, Terry Riley and Alvin Brooks.

  10. Helling is a lazy hanger on with no other options. Why anyone gives a shit about his opinion is beyond me. He cares so much about KCMO, that he lives in JoCo!!!

  11. Politicos go set insider deals, streetcar, Circo at KCPL, Burns and Mac hiring political operatives. Same Crooks Hardly Fakin. The hogs at the trough are about to get sanitized by sunlight. Fixers should be disqualified.
