SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES Emanuel Cleaver, II

Nation’s Largest Grassroots Environmental Group Praises Work to Protect Missouri’s Environment

[Kansas City]: The Missouri Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Emanuel Cleaver, II for the Fifth Congressional District in the 2018 election.

"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Representative Cleaver for re‑election," said Ross Hunt, Sierra Club Missouri Chapter Political Chair. "We are confident that he will continue work to protect Missouri families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for the Show-Me State."

Given the current administration’s ongoing threats to our clean air and water and public lands, it is more important than ever to elect environmental champions like Rep. Cleaver. When President Trump announced this past June that the United States would leave the Paris Climate Agreement, Rep. Cleaver immediately spoke out on the need for continued action to address climate change.

"We are deeply grateful to Rep. Cleaver for co-sponsoring HR 502, the Permanent Re-authorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund", said local Sierra Club outings chair Eileen McManus "Cleaver is a true environmental champion who supports adequate and dependable funding to protect natural areas in Missouri."

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Cleaver's campaign.

"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Rep. Cleaver is re‑elected," said Claus Wawrzinek. "Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his exemplary environmental record. We look forward to a victory for Mr. Cleaver on election night and to Emanuel Cleaver fighting for the environment as our U.S. Representative."

  4. Cleaver is just grandstanding. No one in Washington D.C. cares or knows about Cleaver.

  5. I don't think Cleaver has any interest in protecting the environment, there's a lot of money to be made here and he knows it, plus it helps him with votes.

These folks can't do anything anyway, there's so many people, and so much waste.

The huge corporations who pollute are in bed with people like Cleaver and they are the ones who violate the most.

  6. The mere fact that they endorse a candidate months before the filing deadline tells you the value and credibility of their opinion. Sierra Club used to be a worthy conservation and environmental organization. Then the socialists took over and use it as a tool. I left the group 30 years ago when people were talking about abortion as an environmental issue.

  7. So that's why Cleaver's car wash failed. He refused to combine soap with water. Bad for the environment.

  8. Republicans know that to hold her accountable, they will likely be held accountable for their stupidity as well.

Why bring attention to the sawdust in someone else's eye and bring attention to the plank in theirs?

  10. He actually thinks this crap gives him clout. What has he done for the environment? Nothing. He has no power or will to get anything done and has proven it year after year. Let's not forget the hundreds of millions of dollars the Feds gave him to fix the sewers and rivers when he was mayor for eight years that he spent on everything but that.

  13. Of course they forgot to mention that the planet Cleaver is saving is his Uranus. The one thing he is good at.

  14. If he still has a pulse and is a democrat he gets the Sierra Club endorsement. Of wait a minute, the sierra Club still endorsed Mel Carnahan after the crash.
