TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDER: PARKS BOARD STALLING ON J.C. NICHOLS FOUNTAIN RENAME!!!

Quick update on one of many social justice struggles currently underway . . .

Reality check:

INSIDERS REVEAL: THE KANSAS CITY PARKS BOARD STALLS THE DECISION TO RENAME THE J.C. NICHOLS FOUNTAIN AND HOPES CONTROVERSY DIES AS MONUMENT DEBATE FADES FROM THE NEWS CYCLE!!!

Here's the word:

"Of course this issue was front and center a few weeks ago but now the news is mostly focuses on hurricanes. President Trump will always supply a steady stream of headlines as well. The reality is that one columnist and a less a dozen protesters don't make this decision for us. We want to weigh costs, public opinion from all sides and the long term impact. Actually, we've had more people write to us expressing their desire to keep the name than those in opposition."

And so . . .

WILL PROTESTORS AGAINST THE J.C. NICHOLS MONIKER STEP UP THEIR ACTIVISM OR MOVE ON TO THE NEXT STRUGGLE AMID THE CONSTANTLY SHIFTING MEDIA LANDSCAPE?!?!

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. I can verify the second point.

There really was no massive movement on this. Why don't the protesters start at the miller nichols library at UMKC or one of the many other things that's named after nichols in KC. The Nichols-Reece real estate company?

There are more important struggles than this and I think most of the protesters even realize it.

  2. It's not an unworthy goal. I think they should propose some names first. It's about time that we made a dedication to Kay Barnes, the first woman mayor of KC deserves some recognition.

    Finally.

    1. Perhaps we could name the debt we will owe for way too many years on the power and light district after Ms. Barnes.

  3. I put a lot of thought into this. I do believe that the fountain should have a new name and I am going to submit my suggestion to the park board after much thought I can't think of a better name for the fountain than

The 'Reverend AL Sharpton Friendship Fountain'

Folks could call it 'The Rev',for short.

  4. It's a slippery slope. No one is perfect. We could end up with everything named for trees.

  5. Sue lets remember Kay Barnes the first lady mayor who lied and sold you taxpayers on the Sprint Center which led to the P&L Dist that still can't pay for itself.

Anybody seen that NBL team yet that you all were promised?

  7. 3:10 pm you picked the absolutely most appropriate and perfect name for the fountain. The new Ni''er Nook Park by the Plaza. You can't beat it and with all the ferrel young Neegros mobbing the plaza it would be off the chain perfect.

  11. One more time.

The city could rename the Fountain "The Louis Farrakhan, White People Should Be Killed" Fountain and the incessant, insistent, sanctimonious, Progressive drum beat, for the death of all white people (See Oprah, go to a movie...) would be so "popular".

    Wish I had better news.

It's a war, that no one, with a public, or political microphone says they want, while they look the other way.

The low level civil war in the streets, that indemnifies blacks in the pursuit of black on white hate crimes, continues.

Kill, kill all Antifa, scum, who beat, intimidate and assault those, who seek the opportunity to speak, the opportunity to have a voice.

Kill, the Brown Shirt Progressive Fascists who, violently and with criminal intent, are allowed to kill, assault and intimidate those Americans, who, would employ, FREE SPEECH!!!! to render their opinions!~!

Kill, Fight back, against the Black Lives Matter Obama Brown Shirt Scum, who have wrecked and assaulted, violently, those whose opinions are different.

Kill the thugs, the scum, the low life fucks, who killed me.

Consult your own history & find out when it was named, why it was named, & why after this person.

I think this knowledge will instruct you.

Is it really OK for Chuck, to anonymously, say, "Kill the scum"? Shouldn't there be a trial, or something, first?

    Not even a Kangaroo Court?

  19. "The Nichols family initiated the purchase and installation which was funded by the family, the city and private contributions including a collection by school children in the Kansas City area. It was brought to Kansas City in 1951 and refurbished by Herman Frederick Simon and dedicated in 1960. The J. C. Nichols Memorial Fountain has four heroic horsemen which are said to represent mighty four rivers of the world: the Mississippi River (fending off an alligator), the Volga River (with the bear), the Seine and the Rhine"

    What's your point Byron????

  20. The Truth of the Matter9/10/17, 7:01 PM

It was named Byron for a great man who had vision which is something you know nothing about.

So Byron you stupid ass liberal, falsely labeling everyone you disagree with homophobes, xenophobes, and racists has cost you and your fellow idiots the Senate, Congress, the Supreme Court and the Presidency. You’d better come up with new strategy, it and your Der Fuhrer crap isn’t making anything happen.

    1. I didn't think Byron had a vision. Isn't that what he frauds for welfare?

  21. "At the time, discrimination against racial or religious minorities was both legal and common throughout the nation."

"He was a critical leader in the creation of the Midwest Research Institute, the Kansas City Art Institute, the Liberty Memorial, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Country Club Plaza, and the North American Aviation aircraft plant that paved the way for the General Motors Fairfax Plant that stands at the same location. Decades after his death, his accomplishments continue to pay dividends to Kansas City."

So if Byron all the way from WV had his way we should change the name because of something that was legal and done throughout the entire country. Let's not remember or celebrate the great things he did.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And he was dead before the fountain even existed, his family did this as a tribute to him

  23. Byron has no point! His post doesn't make any sense, nor does he have a clue about the history of Kansas City.

Funny thing about J.C. Nichols, they act like he was the only racist one in K.C. that built anything, and they can't erase his name or his history from Kansas City no matter what they do. This thing can go both ways, like the black history month, the African store in midtown, among other things that exclude white people and are racist.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The protesters better take their vitamins and get ready for the long haul because if they want to rename everything currently named after someone who was allegedly racist, they're gonna have a hell of a job up to and including Disney World.

  25. How bout the Slick James Ol' Faithful Memorial Geyser.
