TKC EXCLUSIVE EXPOSÉ!!! HIDDEN FEES AND PARKING WARS THREATEN DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY LUXURY LIVING DENIZENS!!!
A legion of urban planners, politicos and consultants have promised the rampant downtown high-priced development and "density" would created a "creative-class" paradise in and around the loop.
Unfortunately, the crowded and costly reality for people looking to park their cars near trendy urban new dwellings is far different.
To wit . . .
COMPLAINTS OVER HIDDEN PARKING FEES AND COMMUNITY PUSH BACK OVER STOLEN SPACES NOW CONFRONT LUXURY LIVING SPACES AROUND DOWNTOWN!!!
As always, the problem is worse on the Westside surrounding the new Switzer development.
Here's the word . . .
"Look at their lot. It's empty. But the street around the building is jammed with cars because the residents don't want to pay the $75 monthly parking fee. If they have $1300-month for a one-bedroom, they should be able to cough up a few more bucks. What we're seeing is a proliferation of cheapskates around Downtown who don't mind stealing from longtime residents."
And while neighborhood complaints should be considered, let's look at the issue from the opposite side of the equation . . .
A condo dwelling lady who is not quite as hot as Denise Milani but still offers a valid concern recently answered our questions on this topic:
"My building is straight up stealing. $150 for parking a month in Downtown Kansas City? WTF? $175 for covered parking! I like the convenience but these prices keep going up for parking and it's tantamount to robbery. Worse than that, the cars in our lot still get broken into all the time. It's a scam that targets people who want to move Downtown but don't realize how bad the parking situation has become . . . I wish someone would have told me that this cost is a big part of living in KCMO."
Sadly, skyrocketing prices for parking are simply a fact of life and luxury living space denizens around the loop who aren't yet willing to solely rely on the streetcar, bus or Uber for their transit are forced to pay these surprisingly high costs.
Developing . . .
You have to pay to play.
ReplyDeleteIf downtowners don't know about the cost of parking then they didn't do their homework. It's hard to feel sorry for them.
This is actually a common complaint that could be solved by a streetcar extension. Extending the streetcar will offer more access to better parking, some park and drive solutions along with more access to people from a wider area. Admit it TKC, this is EXACTLY one of the problems that an addition to the streetcar line would solve.
Delete^^^ All for the low, low price of 200 million?
DeleteNo thanks.
They can move out
DeleteThe solution: More taxes on parking spaces.
ReplyDeleteIt's counterintuitive but it has worked in cities like Boston, Portland and Seattle. A great way to check developer greed and provide more funds to KCMo.
So we are suppose spend $250 million for a bunch of freeloaders. That is exactly what they are. They want everyone to pay for their obsolete sewers, city services and now they want free parking.
ReplyDeleteStreetcars do not fix parking or congestion problems.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is they increase these problems idiot.
Contact Mayor Slick J' and complain.
ReplyDeleteThey need to walk or take a bicycle.
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm. So the urban "planners" who wanted people to move downtown didn't realize parking would be an issue? Were they from rural Nebraska and Coffeyville as well as our toot toot promoters?
ReplyDeleteThis provokes a well-deserved, "Well, duh!" from people who actually grew up in cities.
Where there's a problem, there's a solution. The city should post 2 hour parking limits.
ReplyDeleteThe city should build free parking garages for all the downtown residences. We have 800 million go bond Money after all
ReplyDeleteThe city needs to return to a city sticker policy for the downtown Loop area. Think of it as another TDD.pay a once a year tax to get a sticker for your windshield that allows you free parking in the downtown Loop area
ReplyDeleteHow about city dwellers just selling their cars, and using public transportation. If they need a car use the sharing program. Most that i know that live in big cities, don't own a car, or have a friend in the suburbs that stores it for them.
ReplyDeleteHow about you city planners go back to bed. None of you is smart enough to offer any valid opinions. Maybe engage the real-world instead of commenting on a blog all day? Thanks dummies.
ReplyDelete12:13 thanks for that non valid opinion. Now go work on a real world problem. Those hamburgers aren't going to flip themselves you know.
ReplyDelete12:13: Thanks for your input, oh pride of Coffeyville.
ReplyDeleteAgree that walking and taking the bus are the best solutions. It's amazing how entitled people feel to have good parking in the middle of downtown, that is literally not the case in any big city in the U.S., now it's true in KC. That is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteKC = Aspiring Omaha.
ReplyDeleteSorry condo people, you're going to have to pay one way or another.
If you're going to have a car and if you must live downtown, pay for parking. Taxpayers are already subsidizing your lifestyle by abating taxes and building you a nice, new toot toot when a bus would work as well if not better. Don't expect us to pay for your parking as well.
ReplyDelete^^^^ +1
ReplyDeleteSorry, downtown isn't a place for suburban welfare moms. Try Prairie Village.
Who the hell wants to park their car in a "park and ride" lot and ride a streetcar to their home? Is the person that posted this out of their mind? If you really have to do that, don't own a car at all and take the bus or use Uber.
ReplyDeleteGo For KC – what planet are you from??? The streetcar created the parking mess at River Market. The area is now a park & ride lot for the trolley.
ReplyDeleteThe impact fees for subsidized, luxury apartments need to be increased to cover not only the cost of constructing new parking garages but all the other government services that the residents will be using (and not paying taxes for).
ReplyDeleteGo For KC – could you go over in detail how the streetcar will solve the problem since the existing bus service does not.
ReplyDeleteYou would have to be beyond brain dead to move to the downtown area and not have known their are parking issues and not checking just where will you park when making such a move.
ReplyDelete^^^ +1 for Super Dave.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correct. The people who have the biggest problems with parking are those who don't do their homework.
Kansas City is now "a big city"?
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha!!
Holy shit, look at those titties on Denise- she needs a pearl necklace to finish the outfit.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the burbs morons.
