Steve Rose Fears Sprint Merger Tragedy

Preview into the declining JoCo middle-class . . . Like the rest of the nation. Checkit:

Sprint merger with T-Mobile could be an economic tragedy for Kansas City area

The word "disastrous" comes to mind, but that description really is unacceptable, given the actual human disasters wrought by back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes and a devastating earthquake in Mexico. When referring to the almost-certain merger of Sprint with one of its three telecom competitors, T-Mobile, another word must be used.

  1. The city didn't find a way to make themselves indespensable to Google or Sprint. That is on business leadership and political/planning types. All about priorities, judgement, execution.

Whats disastrous is allowing Steve Rose to print anything along with Jenne and Mary.

  3. I have Sprint I bet my phone bill will go up.

New company and a new deal my 50 percent off price just got thrown away.

  4. I used to work at that campus. Feces everywhere. It was disgusting. Security was a joke. Management were assholes.

  5. T-Mobile & TracFone pissed off very many customers a few months ago during their partial buyout, or WTF deal. Their WallyWorld accounts a/k/a Family Talk were major FUBAR'd late May into June. Glitches like dropped calls, no voice messages, stacked texts showing hours later, and the worst UNSAFE FAILURE WAS 911 WOULD NOT DIAL FOR a couple DAYS, EVEN WITH A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY! I went to the local police, fire, and EMS to document this VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. By the third day, we CANCELLED and got another service.

  6. Who cares what Steve Rose thinks anymore?

    Arrogant dick.

  7. Millions of us in this country have lost our jobs through mergers in recent years. This is just more of the same. It won't be over until the entire middle class is gone ... it almost is already

We are America's backwater. A huge peasantry, a small class of oligarchs with big houses and expensive German and Italian cars. Someone here with a $150,000 annual income lives like someone with a $500,000 income in a more desirable part of the country. Those well-fed Sprint people already are hunting new jobs, and you can be assured most of them are with employers far away from this dump.

A lot of nice newish McMansions in southern Joco will soon be available for much lower prices. If you've ever wanted a Porsche but could never afford it, your day is coming soon. There will be used-car lots full of them.

Five years from now, there will be a big new store in Leawood. It will be a Walmart.

  8. T-Mobile is not stupid. They are buying Sprint to get the bandwidth that Sprint owns. They could care less about Sprint customers and employees. They don’t need them.

  9. 12:57 has the right idea about this whole merger.

  10. how about selling the campus to amazon? it'd be a good starter home.

  11. 12:53 liked your very negative comment but hope it's only partially fulfilled.

  12. That leaves the Sprint "campus" available for Amazon.

  13. This is a "sudden surprise" that has been happening for eight years!

When the Chinese bought Sprint and installed a Hispanic whose only experience has always been packaging companies for resale the fire sale sign was posted on the door. The only surprise is that it took that long for the economy to recover enough to make the sale feasible.

Will the Johnson County Ostriches now pull their heads out of the sand (or wherever) and see if something can now be salvaged?
After all, they have had eight years to develop contingency plans, surely a 57% drop in job numbers gave them some sort of warning..

  14. 12:57 that is exactly what my best friend told me the other day, he was laid off from there a little less than a year ago now. He was there a long time and pretty high up, having been spared being laid-off for years until he finally got it last year. He also said AT&T and Verizon have left Sprint in the dust.

  15. Oh boy! The World's Shittiest wireless company to soon be on my phone!

  16. Sprint's hired a Canadian Magician to turn things around?

    ReplyDelete
  17. No, 11:18. I think this is magic, and we should hire a SpellCaster to get the STAR to save a tree and let Steve Rose retire...
