Kansas City Ranks On Amazon HQ2 Shot List

Great find from a TKC reader and maybe the first sign of a real tech jobs influx as Kansas City awaits work to ship cheap Chinese merch across this great nation:

This map shows the 39 places likeliest to win Amazon's new-headquarters contest

Local leaders across North America are suddenly competing to host the second headquarters of Amazon, one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms. But an analysis by The Washington Post shows that only a few dozen metropolitan areas fit the criteria set out by the technology giant in an announcement Thursday.

Comments

  1. Amazon may come to the metro, but certainly not to KCMO.
The earnings tax, poor schools, and crime are more than enough to drive them away, and it's hard to imagine what they must be thinking having just watched what happens when businesses have to try to work with the clown car at 12th and Oak.
Johnson County looks like the winner.
That's where all the executives would live anyway.

  2. "tax and regulatory incentives"

Will they locate where the populace says Yep and Yup when asked questions during job interviews.

  3. Ain't no way the $100K a year Amazon engineers are going to fork over %1 of their paycheck to KCMO for services not rendered. KCMO will not be chosen.

  4. kc area would be great for amazon.

we already have a base of young hard-working engineers.

    adding more eouldn't be hard.

  5. Did he mean "short list" because "shot list" as in getting shot is appropriate! With the murder and crime rate around killa city I'd be shocked if they came anywhere near here. sLIE will have to sell out kc taxpayers like we've never seen before to land these guys

  6. KCMO is one of the race-to-the-bottom cities (subsidies and cheap-arse labor) being tossed into pot.

  7. Amazing how cities and states cursed Amazon for nearly two decades for not collecting sales tax. About the time Amazon is ready to make a move they screw their customers and start collecting sales tax only because they are going to leach fom the local governments like the bitch boys they are. Now look at the boss hog hucksters on their knees ready to give Amazon abatements, break and incentives to relocate - with the tab for this dog and pony show going directly to the tax payers.

  8. Welcome to KCMO Amazon! When the shots ring out — “pop, pop, pop,” and then a thunder roll of gunfire — just hit the floor.

  10. No taxes for 1000 years and also free land anywhere in the city. Every day at noon workers will leave their offices and pray to a giant, gold statue of Jeff Bezo.

  11. ^^^^love this, 10:59.

Next August during Amazon Prime Week, special prayer rugs will be on sale. Including a photo of Sly James with his mouth open.

Back to the issue of the 1% earnings tax--don't i recall that SOME favored companies were exempted from paying it? Including Burns&Mac??

I still don't think Amazon would come to KCMO, but just maybe to OP--taking over the empty Sprint HQ. Plus other free land that OP and Governor/soon to be Spiritual Ambassador Sam Brownback would throw in. After all, shopping on Amazon is kind of a religion.
