  2. Now this is ironic:
the company that supplies the commisary items is partially owned by Sen. Claire McCaskill.

tho I must say, I once assisted a family of an inmate, in ordering commissary goods, and how to pay for them via credit card, and what was on the menu, and what days orders had to be placed each week.
    It's rather complicated.

And with a very rare exception, all the goods were received, four days after being ordered. There was a process for complaints...and human beings in customer service. And, compared to other state prisons, and other county jails around Missouri, Claire's company (I forget the name) had reasonable prices, whereas all the others were 3 to 4 times higher.

This jail also had a reasonable service provider for telephone calls, whereas some were $2.50 per minute, for a LOCAL call, which is not right.

One must remember, people in the county jail are often AWAITING trial, and not convicted. They are human beings who have done very bad things, but our society is judged by how we treat them.

When the process breaks down, eg unavailability of supplies and sundries, THAT is when it becomes Lord of the Flies, and the alpha males who are skilled gang members then run their own commisary of sorts. Bartering for favors. Overcharging for perceived necessities.

When someone must appear in court, they need, and deserve, toothpaste, shampoo, and a razor.

Razor blades were not for sale in the commissary, understandable, except the wardens and guards handed them out as loaners. Well, that's a problem, because of blood. that is how Hepatitis C is communicated, etc.

I hope the new woman in charge of the Jackson County Jail gets this sorted out immediately.

Many of us on this site support the 2nd Amendment, but we also need to support the 6th Amendment. A fair trial.

  5. Hell. No clean sheets for six months sounds like the average frat house to me.

    1. Frat house or jail. There's a lot of butfucking going on at both places. They need clean sheets.

  7. So Claire is knocking down on the misery of the incarcerated. Sounds like the typical "helpfulness" of Democrats.
