EDGED OUT!!! BURNS & MAC STAYS LOSING KANSAS CITY SINGLE-TERMINAL NEW AIRPORT BID RECOMMENDATION!!! EDGEMOOR INFRASTRUCTURE & REAL ESTATE DEFEATS 'HOMETOWN TEAM' AMID CONFLICT & FINANCING CONCERNS!!!

Just now, the KC Airport Selection Committee reveled that Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate is their recommendation.

Right now City Manager Troy Schulte along with Council members Jolie Justus and Jermaine Reed are attempting to explain the process . . . Horribly.

I'm sure Edgemoor has problems of their own even in this fleeting moment of victory but this is really Burns & Mac losing big more than anything else.

Last month we told our blog community that Burns & Mac BLEW IT with their sketchy cost comparison analysis . . . Not to mention the attempt at rigging the process from the outset.

But better than all of this is . . .

MAYOR SLY JAMES FAILED TO DELIVER THE NEW AIRPORT RECOMMENDATION TO HIS PALS @ BURNS & MAC!!!

This is actually a good thing for everybody including Mayor Sly . . . The Burns & Mac FAIL takes away constant questions about BID RIGGING that actually did scare City Hall insiders and the move offers a new start for the idea of a new airport.

However . . .

It also means that the KC campaign will take a hit . . . Again, good news . . . NO MORE STUPID GEORGE BRETT COMMERCIALS!!!

Caveat . . . The selection of a contractor still has to go to the Council but selecting Burns & Mac at this point would be even more dangerous . . . The bottom line: They blew it by being greedy.

Now we move toward a November election where politicos and an out of town company attempt to sell KC on an airport that only a few losing corporate cronies wanted in the first place.

Developing . . .

  1. What a joke. How much money was spent on this process? This could all be for not when the vote comes in.

    1. Good point.

Without burns & mac money for the campaign, it's a longshot.

This whole thing poisoned the well.

  3. PUT THE 'NO' BACK INTO NOVEMBER, KANSAS CITY!

  4. unfortunately, picking somebody other than the crony deal may actually help the proposal with voters.

the rigged deal would have been tainted in voters' eyes.

  9. some transparency in the process is undoubtedly because of TKC's coverage of the original attempted crony deal.

thank you for bringing a good government voice while the local newspaper was lagging.

  10. It is a tragedy that BM lost, but boy did they bring it on themselves.

    Sad.

  11. Path of least resistance for voters maybe? It'll still lose after the toy train debacle.

  12. I wonder how old Sly is feeling today. This is from back in May, "With Friday’s announcement, James said, Burns & McDonnell and the city have come forward with “a Kansas City solution for a Kansas City problem.”" His pride has to be taking hits with this and then the No vote on the toy train back in August.

  13. You are wrong. Sly wanted the new airport and he is going to get it.

  15. 318, one has to ask oneself: Is Sly clever enough to have orchestrated this, in that he just played along with BM to get to jump start discussions and head toward the end result?

This deal will actually be more likely to be seen as untainted by voters.

Or did it just work out that way. Probably.

  16. Thanks, outside counsel. There's obviously been a lot go on behind the scenes but maybe, just maybe, some good faith advising was involved.

  17. What Duke, Sly, Jolie and a host of others is unforgivable. They poisoned this thing so badly it should not be passed. We need to stand up against this and tell the city government they work for us. I have no problem with a new airport, but does anyone trust Sly or Jolie now?

  18. It was a done deal a few days ago... I just wonder who tipped off the unethical bastards at Burn & Mac that prompted them to file the compliant and "demand" a restart to the process.

  19. Sly was at a MoDot meeting today, working on flipping a Broadway Bridge project to B&M

  20. There goes the vote for the new airport. There are thousands of voters changing there minds right now .With the money they already spent they could have started renovations.on the existing airport and there will be tens of millions more that goes down a big black hole. AND VOTERS MAY NOT APPROVE A NEW AIRPORT. .

  29. Should be some corporate PR flacks, contract strategists, and lobbyists who used to work for Burns and Mac out looking for new jobs.
Probably also a really good time to change law firms.
    Way too cute by half.
And worst of all, counting on a delusional big-time local politician who was going to grease the skids and show everyone, especially the public, how clever he was.
Not ready for prime time and a real black mark on the ole resume when you leave the mayor's office and pitch yourself to corporate and Chamber swells or heavy political hitters.
Any openings in the trolley driving business?

  30. We don't say this enough around here butThank You Tony for providing transparent complete unvarnished truth to these important local issues. Seriously, if not for Tony we would continue to be in the dark regarding the shenanigans our local elected officials pull. It's been this way forever but now, thanks to Tony, we the people are starting to get our voice heard. Thank you again Tony. This city is better with you doing what you do.

  34. The KC Star still hints that the new airport (single terminal) is a done deal no matter who has the contract. I hate when they wade in before the public even knows what or who they are voting for.

Put the NO in November - kill this idea and insist that the City come up with a reasonable and affordable plan to renovate what we have. The taxpayer piggy bank is empty.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The River Club? Isn't that where K C's racists and anti-Semites have lunch, and accidentally let Sly in, thinking he was a waiter.

Sly was so glad to be let in, he gave the Confederate General a $Billion deal at KCI.

  36. Vote NO for an airport that will be much less convenient.

  37. recently picked up somebody at the airport. so easy.

have picked up people in denver, baltimore, laguardia, tampa, phoenix, boston, and others over the past couple of years and it's a pain.

it's so obvious that a good remodel could preserve the good attributes of KCI while updating it for a fraction of a billion.
