Tap the brakes for a second, North America. Let that sea of red tail lights on the roadways around Seattle serve as a warning from those of us who have lived here for some time - big, giant tech companies in the heart of your city can change things. A lot.

  3. South Kansas City could still use some life. Cerner employees won't live there but if Amazon brings in 50,000 employees some will have to live nearby.

  4. Johnson County folks will sit back and let the eco devo, Chamber, and elected clowns from KCMO breathlessly race around and offer to give away everything under the sun and then the Amazon folks will visit the metro, take a look at what KCMO is and how it opeates, then glance west and say, "Say, what's this over here?"
Lots of JoCo opportunities for the Amazon folks, no e-tax, great schools, great transportation systems, low crime, balanced and predictable tax system, and professional local governments to work with.
These people are from Seattle where the reality of the environment turns out to be much much more important than spinning fantasies and hype.
All Sly's dancing in the world won't change the facts.

  5. So Amazon wouldn't locate part of the northland that's not KCMO?

  6. Either way the housing market will do just fine. The market might see a small rush if Amazon locates here but nobody will become super rich over night. House buying will still be based on location, shopping and schools something that a lot of Kansas City Mo does not have to offer. Out of town buyers will go north, east, west, and south of central Kansas City to buy homes.

Buts lets be real here. Out of state people moving here won't be more than those hired who are already living here. Whats the need for a second headquarters if your going to move already in place staff there? If Amazon comes to Kansas City outside of building what they want we won't see all that much a change in things other than the local mass media falling all over themselves to report on it. 40k to 50k of people are not going to come rolling in to the area in a caravan of U-Hauls and every known nationwide moving companies all at once like a huge parade. It will be a trickle effect that most will never see.

  7. Has A BUSINESS person many would welcome 50,000, High paying job's, The area need more of those. Many business people will tell you 60 percent of the people are one paycheck from disaster. The outher 40 percent are careful where they spend thats why they have it. It will be Great if they Locate within the metro area. The metro is so spread out people will still have an affordable place to live.

  10. Hell Amazon be goin' to Kansas. Whats a matta wit you fool. Kansas got lower boone ratio, no mandatory min wage, no inner city slum and defunct school.

  11. Have it on good authority Amazon is considering an area be ween Lawrence Kansas and KCI.

  12. Amazon said they want a city like Seattle. IMO Kansas City is not diverse or liberal enough for Amazon, that's what the article in the NYT was trying to get across without saying it straight out that they want a very progressive city.

  13. Weez got da local beer and booze, da toy train, and artizan barbecuez. Wut the hell elze day need?

  14. And of course the left never mentions how hoodrats cause a decline in property values.

  15. I was just reading that the drop in property values which equals a drop in tax revenue is what caused the school problems in the 70's , and now people will complain that property values will go up?

  16. Amazon won't HQ here. The advantage to KC area is warehousing and shipping from the center of the U.S. They already have distribution centers in the Midwest. There is no need for them to send their corporate execs to the Siberia of America. I am betting they will look at locations like Dallas where there are huge talent pools, safety from climate change related crap, great air transportation options, warm weather, and a low cost of living.
