The Fight For Westport Stays Losing

Pitch tries to make sense of a development plan (or lack thereof) that's destroying everything people love about this part of Midtown. Take a look:

Westport's latest development deal again raises the question: Is this a historic neighborhood or an entertainment district?

The red hashtag #NOPUS signs came down quickly after the City Council's June 15 vote. In something close to unison, members of the Help Save Old Westport group rose and filed out of the council chambers. First District-at-large Councilwoman Katheryn Shields stood by the railing separating the public seating from the council members.

  3. A fine story. one small point: Kathryn Shields and Jolie Justus represent the 4th district, on the KCMO City Council (Shields is at large, Justus in district.). An understandable mistake, since Scott Burnett's Jaxco Legislative district is the 1st.

Westport has lost its leadership and focus. Sorting about for solutions to crime, including privatizing the streets. Opus will not solve these problems--but may provide SOME balance and traffic that is not all about the bar scene.

I was at the Tivoli Tues night to see Maudie--excellent film. The parking lot (enter near Char Bar) is much better lit than before. Free parking for weekdays, $5 at night (refundable with a ticket stamp from the Tivoli.

When the streetcar goes in in 2022, I'm guessing one will have to pay to park ALL the time, due to moochers parking there to go elsewhere, eg Sprint. It already happened at River Market--not enough parking for the millenials when the moochers drive in from Joco or Lee's Summit, leave their car and hop the Toy Train to work downtown. It's all one House of Cars--pun intended.

  4. Serious crime in Westport will keep out the metrosexual TRANNY BITCHES , why pay $2000 a month for a cracker box overpriced apartment whilst gangs of the inner city youth scholar's hood rats may KILLA CITY your white human beings ass for a few bucks or your car keys ?¿

  5. There's shortage of rental property in Kansas City. For every square foot of luxury apartments there needs to be yen times that in affordable housing.

  6. Westport is one of few areas in KC where you can choose to eat and/or drink at restaurants and bars that are not part of national chains. I have nothing against chains, they are obviously popular with the beige house crowd, but they are boring and predictable and belong only in strip malls like the Plaza.
