SCHOOL BOARD DUDE JOHN FIERRO PUTS FAITH IN NEW BOULEVARD BREWERY BEER GARDEN NEXT TO SACRED HEART CHURCH!!!

To be fair, John isn't the bad guy here . . . He's just in the unfortunate position of having to explain a tragic situation to gringo reporters.

Again, we blogged this one at the outset of the month but the MSM version is worth a second look:

Fox4: Boulevard Brewery’s plans for outdoor beer garden met with resistance from neighbors

Money line:

“Based upon the history of what Boulevard has demonstrated, I’m very confident we’re not going to have issues. And if issues were to arise, I know that with the leadership over at Boulevard, we can go and talk to them and say here’s a problem we are having and you need to address it,” said John Fierro with the Mattie Rhodes Center.

Fierro is president of the Mattie Rhodes Center on the west side. He’s lived in the area 40 years and attends Sacred Heart/Guadalupe. The Mattie Rhodes Center signed a letter of support for Boulevard’s new outdoor space. He says he can respect the concerns of neighbors, but thinks there’s a bigger picture to consider."

The bigger picture is the small time Westside politicos are able to garner a great many favors and some petty cash from Blvd. BUT that kind of patronage really doesn't benefit the Church and now has the smallish parish sharing altar space with boozing tourists.

Again, John's work for Mattie Rhodes and their services is pretty much a white-hat operation that benefits all of KC but we don't imagine everyone's motives are as pure.

TKC FUN FACT . . .

The level of outrage is understated in this report . . .

ANGRY NEIGHBORS HAVE PRANKED THE SACRED HEART PRIEST FOR SIDING WITH BLVD AND PROMISED HIM A BEAT DOWN IF HE STEPS OUTSIDE THE CHURCH!!!

The Priest didn't really understand the situation he was easily conned by BLVD and so many neighborhood chieftains playing their own angles . . . NOW he knows his neighbors well enough to understand that a fist fight over this bad deal is entirely possible . . . And so, for the past two weeks he has skipped talking with parishioners after mass on the street.

Sadly, all of this is simply bickering over an inevitability . . . BLVD has torn a community apart, created lifelong rivalries and a great deal of opposition with their add-on to an already MASSIVE facility . . . Visitors to their upcoming beer garden should understand that the proximity to the church was UNWELCOME BY MOST NEIGHBORS and really nothing more than the result of petty community politics and ongoing Kansas City gentrification.

You decide . . .

  1. Blvd peaked 5 years ago.

Most of their line is garbage now.

  2. Fuck Boulevard. Are they that fucking greedy? They aren't even owned by Americans anymore. We tell those cocksuckers what they can and can't do.

  4. Boulevard carries a lot of water in this town. The church pays no taxes. Easy decision. Look for an electrical fire real soon in the church.

  5. 8:13 are you making a threat?

Do you have any connection to the Kansas City Atheist Coalition?

  6. This is NOT a good look for BULLYvard to be BREWING up bad vibes between neighbors.

And, 8:13, don't mess with Jesus!

  7. We have to preserve places to drink in KC. There is such a shortage.

  8. The Catholics have built Knights of Columbus right beside or across the street their churches for years and not been seen as bad. I remember a joke in Shawnee years ago about those who went to Saturday night mass did so knowing afterwards they would be going over to the Knights and getting too drunk to maybe get up in time for Sunday mass.

I can see how some neighbors might feel pushed out by Blvd, but if they didn't want the brewery there in the first place they should have tried to stop it in the very beginning.

  11. Well Tony I'm sure it's jolly fun to make Boulevard the bad guy but in reality an empty, falling-down dump of a church that has run it's course and can be demolished by a speeding car hitting it is no loss to anybody and everyone knows it.

But if you enjoy making up fantasy stories, have at it.

  12. @10:01 - There's a real shortage of churches too, huh?

  13. The church will get hit by Jewish lightning.

  14. If it wasn't for the brewery and the coffee place that area would be nothing but hookers, drug dealers and drunk Mexicans.

  16. Since when *doesn't* a beer garden and a catholic church go hand-in-hand? Some of the best brewers in Europe are catholic monks, ffs.
