Check Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Math

The local think tank offers an estimation of a controversial project that citywide voters have rejected twice. Check their work:

Running the Numbers on the KC Streetcar

Last Tuesday, Kansas Citians voted to effectively block future growth of the city's streetcar unless and until city leaders can make the case to the entire city that expansion is needed. Longtime readers will remember that, importantly, the streetcar itself was given life in 2012 thanks to 460 voters in a gerrymandered district who mailed in ballots to help establish the line.

  1. Why aren't we spending this money on fixing this broke ass town??? That's right, sLIE only cares about downtown that's why

  3. It is hard to believe the City is funding the Street Car with a very small % of the KCMO population. This taxing district group was not given a fair chance to vote and I am sure that they would have voted the initiative down in a true vote.
In addition, the City is trying to move this forward without Citywide support. Don't let anyone ever tell you the City Counsel is any more fair when it comes to voting than the Republicans.
I would suggest that if the City pursues the expansion of the Streetcar the Federal Govt will not provide any support for the initiative.

  4. I dont remember the cost of this debacle. Say 30 million. 460 voters each worth 64000.00 or so. How can this be legal.

  5. The cost is around 200 million so far, then 200 million more to river and 160 million or something like that to umkc. This has the opportunity cost of superior transit with lower costs much more flexibly oriented to the future. Namely autonomous shuttles.

  6. Streetcar is already obsolete, we have provided details to council members to establish superior price and performance options that are being purposefully suppressed. This is what happens when unknowing parties go along with the fix.

  7. The idea that Sly wants to take local control translates to more poorly reviewed inside fixes like we have seen with Streetcar and Airport slam jobs brought to you by Sly James and a basically compromised and corrupt supporting cast, and the Rockhurst mafia. Many would vote no confidence if they could.

  8. It is just rich how they do action after action to set the fix. They get caught then called out then go right back to it. Normally they hope to skunk in the back room deals but go ahead and disrespect process and public again. Time to clean house, Sly, Reardon, Robbie, Warn.

  9. This is the kind of integrity they want to bring you and foist much more broadly with Sly imposing de facto fixes on localities in grater metro. Need an example, Streetcar and airport and appointment of ATA head.

  10. Study pools of autonomous shuttles and then ask why you are not hearing about them in context of being superior options. The transit game moved on but Sly and synchophants are stuck in the fix.

  11. Read the Steve Rose column everyone is tired of Sly's bs as a frontman fixer without a clue. Media should be asking when Tesla's Streetcar killer instantly obsoletes Sly's fix and 10x cost bloat brought to you by the fix and the clueless with better options choked and purposefully suppressed.

  12. Instead of the breakthroughs of our times we get bloated pork and the fix. Tell me how well considered colliding the worlds of grandma tourists with their little ones with. regular Metro route and how that turns out.

  13. Extraordinarily expensive, half baked, and purposefully not allowing for the consideration of other options but isn't that the Sly way.

    ReplyDelete
  14. One announcement from Elon and the Streetcar fix becomes permanently obsolete, it could as easily come from Google, Apple, byd, or SoftBank.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Let's see multiple good options and compared costs with futures paths elaborations for flexible extensibility. The smug planner types are fundamentally missing the show here but this will get very interesting soon. If Marc and ATA are not proposing autonomous for futures then are the not simply failing in their capacity for planning and near futures of transit. But why pray tell would they do that, simply because they are crony held captives of the fix without a clue.

  16. This fight will play out for less than a few years and then the tech industry will decide it definitively. Sly and the fix going down, the real estate guys learning they should not be so arrogant outside their expertise, and the public wondering how the were not served by so many mediocre local agencies.

  17. The public will love autonomous shuttles, Rockhurst mafia and Sly, those are stocks going down fast
