TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY REJECTS CITIZEN SATISFACTION FAKE NEWS!!!

Kansas City is currently enduring a historic homicide spike but recent polling from City Hall claims locals are feeling happy and safe despite rising crime, taxes, fees and water bills.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS CRY FOUL AMID RELEASE OF 2017 CITIZEN SATISFACTION NUMBERS THAT STAY WINNING DESPITE DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES IN NEIGHBORHOODS!!!

Here's the word:

"Your readers should notice that that neither the City Manager nor the Mayor made a really big deal out of these numbers because they're so laughable. The FAKE survey tells us that resident 'satisfaction' with KCMO has been increasing steadily for nearly a decade but that kind of love isn't reflected anywhere else but this survey when we're talking about mostly stagnant population growth and all the damn murders this year. There was no way they were going to make a big deal about these numbers."

However, because we believe in sharing public info for all of our readers, we invite locals to take a glimpse of the report in full.

The basics:

KCMO administers an anonymous citizen survey each fiscal year to a statistically significant random sample of its population to better understand citizens’ level of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with city services as well as their priorities for improvement. Residents gave the city high marks for providing services that contribute to a positive quality of life. Another area of growing satisfaction is public transportation, notably the KC Streetcar.

Big picture bight and happy numbers of KCMO Citizen satisfaction:

There were significant increases in satisfaction ratings in all five of the perception items that were rated in both 2005 and 2016 - 17. The significant increases are listed below:

 - Overall image of the city (+ 29.0%)

- Overall quality of life in the city (+16.6%)

- Quality of services provided by the city (+16.3%)

- Value received for city tax dollars and fees (+15.8%)

- Overall feeling of safety in the city (+10.9%)

In conclusion and as always, we bring the debate to our blog community . . .

DO YOU BELIEVE CONSTANTLY INCREASING KANSAS CITY CITIZEN SATISFACTION NUMBERS DESPITE RISING CRIME, TAXES AND FEES???

You decide . . .

  2. I will say that the KCMO publicity machine works a lot better and more efficiently than it ever has before. KC is doing great at manufacturing hype. I'm surprised they didn't sell this as an overall win.

  9. There was nothing anonymous about city survey I received several years ago from Killa City. Home address was required.
Survey appeared to be a tool for political consultants to use to identify issues for targeting voters.

  10. For a vast majority of people, despite the increased homicide numbers, life goes on, and people are able to do what they want and go about their lives. 100 homicides in a city of 460,000 is a tiny percentage. While it is obviously a bad thing and needs to be dealt with, for most people, it's just another story on the 10PM news.

You are not going to have a perfect utopia anywhere on the planet. There are always going to be political issues, controversies, and bad news to deal with.

I will say that downtown KC is better off today than 15 years ago. A lot of improvement has taken place.

  12. Whoever did the survey must disclose its methodology in detail to achieve any level of credibility in the results. "Statistical significance" just refers to the number of participants in the sample versus the number in the general population it claims to replicate: tell us how many are in each group, define the general population and describe how the sample population is its microcosm. Also, no survey is "random." The contact information had to come from somewhere. What was its source, and how did the researcher determine from whom to solicit a response and how to go about doing that.

My hunch is it was done by some PR firm either amateurishly, or competently but with a specific result as the goal.

  13. I received one of those survey forms in the mail this past Tuesday -- haven't even filled it out yet -- guess I won't have to bother now -- they're already patting themselves on the back.

  16. Who are they and where do they live? A survey is only as good as the number of people who respond to it. Must have hit an area where everything is beautiful, no problems, houses kept up, lawns mowed, children not in jail. Tra la la.

  17. Joe Turner makes some good points.

However, perception is reality for many. If the city is Trending towards a more violent atmosphere and citizens think that they can expect to experience the benefits of "Diversity" in close proximity within a reasonable time frame, then, they will consider the city unsafe.

This survey, DOES do one important thing, that just reading stats on crime neglects. The relentless intimidation by thugs and knowledge of violence from those thugs which could erupt at any time is hard to account for. Anyone with room temp and a modicum of what we would call a 6th sense, knows when they have just vacated a dangerous area or lived through a dangerous encounter that could have resulted in an explosion of violence, robbery or, even death.

White Progressives, who repeatedly get elected to office, maintain sinecure and make bank off of the felons who ruin cities and neighborhoods, sure as fuck don't live in the places where YOU might get fuckin killed.

The survey, if done honestly, would reflect the expectations of violence and entropy, based on the experience of the people who took it.

It would really be interesting to employ an impartial pollster to actually see what a wide cross section of residents thought about crime and city services in various zip codes.

  19. If you get a survey and one of the choices for "how wonderful a job do you think Sly and the gang are doing" is "Frosty", you have a pretty good idea of just how rigged this make-believe joke actually is.

  20. If everyone is so content in K.C. then why did mayor bullhorn say "What is going on with this city?" He was referring to how high the crime was, and also said, he didn't know what to do. There are areas that people are bailing out of because of crime, and some because of high taxes and nothing for the tax dollar.

  21. I'm not trying to "gloss over anything" or "look with rose colored glasses". Clearly the crime problem is a big issue, and it has a very negative impact, including on public perception about KC.

When it comes to that survey, most people are going to answer it based on their own personal situation in life.
"Well, I'm going OK myself. So I guess things in KC are 'OK'." Just like people vote generally based on how they are doing themselves on election day.

And the crime problem: It's not just KC.

St. Joseph is having crime problems. Columbia is also having a violent crime problem. When I went to Mizzou 20 years ago, there was none of that.

And, this is in no way to excuse or say "well yeah but" when it comes to KC crime. It's one symptom of a nationwide problem throughout society.

  22. I filled out the survey, it was incredibly long and confusing. I can understand why the feedback was positive for the city as the people who filled it out don't suffer from food insecurity, poverty and safety. As a person who is a data lover, the numbers and information they received are skewed. I remember filling it out and wanting it to be over.

  26. These results are a joke. Kansas City is about to become the next Detroit. The reason it has too many inter-city slopes commiting black on black crime. If we could napalm certain parts of Kansas City we could eradicate these fucking bugs.

  27. In comparison to yourselves or good compared to other cities? That's the question that should be answered. To yourselves is like the alcoholic who can't or won't acknowledge what others around them think about them because they are so fucked up they truly believe the 5th DUI was mommy and daddy's fault because they just didn't hug them enough but people who see them are like damn you are a POS. Should send the survey to JOCO and NKC peeps to see how they think KCMO is doing. Then you might get a truer view.
