TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! OUR BLOG COMMUNITY SUPPORTS KCPD MAJOR RICK SMITH FOR NEXT TOP COP OVER SMALL TOWN CANDIDATE!!!

For the past few days we've been collecting opinion, talking with insiders and checking our sources on one of the most important decisions Kansas City confronts this Summer.

Accordingly, here's the word . . .

OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORTS MAJOR RICK SMITH FOR THE NEXT KANSAS CITY TOP COP JOB!!!

Pictured first and to the left at the beginning of this post . . . What we looked for in support of the Major was real insight, testimony about comments about his experience from locals who were willing to speak out about his management style.

Meanwhile, according to comments and insiders, the small town candidate to the right at the top of this post simply didn't seem qualified to deal with big city problems currently confronting KCMO.

As always, TKC doesn't make official endorsements but we have noted and been forthright about our support of Major Smith and most of the top readers seem to agree.

Today we present this collection of TOP COMMENTS from our blog community which speak to some of the biggest issues regarding the decision among the denizens of the local discourse and insightful commentary from all sides of the issue.

Take a look;

Gut reactions and good comparisons . . .

"To have come up with these two "finalists" represents a complete failure by both the executive search company (which was paid how much?) and the Board of Police Commissioners. The individual from the much smaller department doesn't even come close to being able to address the KCPD, an organization clearly in need of a major overhaul and cultural transformation. He appears to be the throwaway out-of-town candidate . . ."

"What kind of idiots pick a guy from a city 1/20th the size of the KC Metro and an insider and then try to make anyone believe there was even a process involved? This is all the more reason the state should take more control of KCPD and get the local boss hog politicians out of the process. This could have been a great opportunity to rebuild a dynamic, tech savvy, progressive modern department."

"We have a candidate who has worked in Tac, homicide and a multitude of other assignments. When he was in East Zone the community loved him and now in Center Zone he has developed incredible relations with the community there. He just obtained his own mental health advocate in his division. He has experience, knowledge and support of the troops."

"The Oklahoma guy is chief of a 150 officer agency. KC is 10 times bigger."

Great SIGNED comments . . .

Bill Nigro: "Major Smith is an excellent choice. He worked off duty in Westport in the early 90's and I've watch him rise thru the ranks. He has great people skills and a better knowledge of our home town problems. He has worked hard with Westport to stay on top of our crime issues. I don't know the other candidate, but I do know what I get with Rick Smith and that's honesty, integrity, and great security knowledge of our city. Major Rick Smith is my choice."

Super Dave: "When public service departments are as bad as it appears KCPD is, the majority of times an outside leader coming in and taking over is the strong solution to the problem."

Best comment and Kansas City first person testimony:

"I've known Rick his entire career. He has been an outsider with the current team, but worked to help the community. His troops love him and will work for him. He will cut the size of command and put people back to work. He's been in Tac, Investigations and understands how to lead troops. KCPD isn't inept, our senior commanders are. They blindly followed Forte, who considered his troops racists and scared. It's time to have a chief who will have the respect of the troops because he actually has been there. Not one of our deputy chiefs have ever been cops. They spent their time trying to be chief. This is the day we all knew was coming, not one of them showed any back bone. They never stood up to support the troops. Their time has come and passed. Hire Major Smith and we will follow him, we love this city and department. He can lead, he has been an outsider here. He will promote leaders, not people that will tell him yes all day."

  1. Will agree that this is a BIG decision for KC. We have to do something in order to get the streets under control.

  2. Well it sure as hell isn't happening this go around....

  3. Why does Caleb Clifford at JaxCO want this guy so bad?

  4. It's NOT a big decision.
Thinking that this will change the culture of KCPD is wishful thinking.

  5. Everyone gets excited at first then it's back to the same old thing.
Can't wait to see what new acronym programs they start. .........

  6. Rick Smith has a lot of experience. Unfortunately, all of his experience has been working for the worst police department ever. The KCPD couldn't catch a cold in January. They are a complete joke. This is just another bad hire although probably not as bad as the jackoff he is replacing. Why can't we get a real police chief? We need a real police department rather than a bunch of chickenshit desk jockeys that are afraid of criminals and just want to write reports. Why do you think crime is out of control in KC? Because of chickenshit dickfaces like Rick Smith is why.

  7. Another missed opportunity which unfortunately will continue to adversely affect the health and attractiveness of the entire KC metro.
One thing you can always bet on in personnel decisions in KCMO government is that qualifications and meritocracy will ALWAYS be subordinate to insider dealing, relationships with current incumbents, special interest pressures, and plain old favors and backslapping.
KCPD just spent a few hundred thousand dollars with consultants who, among other recommendations, pointed out that:
The department is top-heavy due to promotions.
The department needs at least another 30 officers.
The department has been deploying what resources it currently has inappropriately and ineffectively.
A serious chief from outside the system would take a look at this operation and take names, kick butt, and do some house cleaning.
    What a shame!

    1. You know nothing! Rick Smith is not an insider. Rick Smith speaks his mind. Rick Smith was "reassigned" because he stood up for what he thought was right! Rick Smith will lead this department.

    2. I totally agree with the above comment. Rick's biggest strength is that he wasn't one of the numerous pussy Commanders who blindly followed Forte. Rick stood up for what is right and that's what is great about him.

  22. I agree. Even though he is an "insider", he is not one of the status quo that led the department to its current broken state. He is definitely a man who can right the ship. He needs to "drain the swamp" of the do nothing, worthless, self-serving commanders.

  32. 9:47 is a female patrolman who gives head to all the police brass. God knows there are plenty of them.

  33. No matter who is "chosen" KCPD and ther citizens are fucked for quite a few years into the future. Not a damn thing to celebrate here.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why can't we have a police chief from the days gone by? Who looks and acts tough in getting the job done? The two main candidates are a candy-azz looking guy, and an affirmative action hire. I know, I know, they say he taught Bob Munden how to do his thing, his longest sniper shot had to be officially classified by the US Military due to the envy of sniper's worldwide, and he once climbed Everest in full tac gear, with one arm tied behind his back, and carrying supplies for the rest of his team with the other; he is: The Smith.

On the other hand, a guy who looks like the community he is supposed to bring back into a civil society.

The very definition of a lose-lose sitchy.
