Northland opposition to Chouteau Courts transplants intensifies

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - A petition has been started by Northland residents aiming to prevent the construction of a mixed-income development that would house up to 30 displaced residents of the Historic Northeast's Chouteau Courts housing project.

  1. Here is a simple test. Find me a public housing project with a low crime rate in KC. No hurry I'll wait. Having trouble look at the one at englewood and waukomis, huge problem and wait for it, public housing. Since the city refuses to fund more police the last thing people want is more problems with no police presence. Wagner can go suck a bag of dicks. Make sure you let Wagner, loar, and fowler know they can be out of a job next election if they keep ignoring their voters.

  2. For years north of the river were able to avoid having section 8 housing when their districts went south of the river. Now with those districts entirely on the north side of the river the game is up. Put that section 8 housing in, they are always saying the city doesn't give them their fair share.

  3. That's how sLIE thinks he can fight crime by spreading it out all over the city, I feel bad for north of the river, that was the last safe place left to go. Guess it's time to run for the hills!

  4. I agree with 3:42, someone show me the statistics that show how public housing has reduced crime rates, increased property values and been an overall benefit to an area. How many housing projects does leawood have by the way?

  5. $:26 needs to know that the Northland (KCN, NKC, Gladstone) has had Section 8 housing for over 25 years. Also, the North Kansas City High School is the MOST DIVERSE IN THE METRO AREA, with Winnetonka HS coming in at number 8.

If you want to play the "race card", be sure first that you have it in your hand.

  8. When are the voters in the KC portions of Clay & Platte Counties going to de-annex and disconnect from Jackson County? Why are they going down with the ship?

  9. Hey, do you realize there is no such thing as Section 8 HOUSING, only vouchers some developers/landlords are willing to accept. De-annexing won't stop them. Any Leawood landlord can accept them; market there just does not because the real estate is too valuable. Poor people live where the rich and middleclass do not want to.

  10. Scott Wagner has no idea how angry Northlanders are about the fact that KCMO has ignored this annexed area since 1950. We have NO sidewalks (in KCMO), no curbs, no parks, no swimming pools, no nothing except a tax bill. Without the Northland, there would be a big hole in KC's budget. And City Hall deliberately carved a slice out of the 1st & 2nd districts to pull us into District 4. Where the hell is District 4? Oh, it's SOUTH of the river, and we have Ms. Jolie as our representative. Thanks, for nothing.

Every single stinking Section 8 area has crime. Plenty of Section 8 houses sprinkled around to help the neighborhoods rot. We have plenty of "diversity" so drop the idea that we don't like brown people. City Hall needs to pay a visit sometime.

  11. This is just wrong in so many ways. Instead of moving them why don't you just fix up what they tore up. We bought our first home in Ruskin Heights back in 1981 and I'm glad we got out when we did. Took our oldest son by that house to show him where he was born at. First thing he did was lock his door. It's just tore to hell out there now. The 7-11 at Blueridge and 107th has been the scene of more then one shooting. Low income people don't want to better themselves and it's prove by Grandview. It's looking like inner city out there. They don't need to build brand new for them to be torn up. Take that grant and fix up the inner city for them. I grew up on 37th and Park and when neighbors moved out next door. They broke every damn window in that place and went in and striped all the stuff they could steal while knocking holes in walls. We don't want that shit up here.
