Kansas City Urban Core McComplaint Served

An Aldi and a food truck haven't solved the problem of local food deserts according to some, here's a recent bit of KCMO constant food desert complaining . . .

Driving home from work and I passed the brand-new McDonald's that's being built in the shops at the corner of Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Troost Avenue.

I thought to myself- WTF. Do we really need another fast food option? Why isn't there a grocery store in this neighborhood??

Apple Market closed and Natures Own has moved after the fire. Where are people supposed to buy groceries?

The only options are Dollar Tree, Dollar General, CVS, Walgreens, and Family Dollar. So there's no options for produce, and almost nothing available that does not contain high fructose corn syrup!

You decide . . .

  1. People vote for what they want with their dollars. If everyone spends their money in their own self interest, scarce resources will be allocated in the most efficient manner possible as if an invisible hand were guiding the economy. Adam Smith.

  2. Maybe you should move to a better neighborhood that the grocers don't get robbed blind in and have to pay exorbitant insurance to cover those losses

  5. I sure wouldnt open a nice grocery store in those areas. There would be so many gunpoint robberies. You would need metal detectors, and full time security officers in it.

  6. what is wrong with ALDI at 38th and Prospect?
food desert? I hardly think so.

  7. I asked myself, "Why the fuck would any business want to invest in a shit hole city that is constantly trying to screw them up the arse?"

  8. The food desert is a myth. There's a Sun Fresh in Westport, Price Chopper in Brookside, a Save A Lot and Aldi on Troost, Aldi on Prospect, Costco on Linwood and they're building a Whole Foods by UMKC. Do you expect to have a grocery store right next to your residence? People complain about not having any stores in urban areas, then when McDonald's builds a new store you whine about that.

  9. ^^^when you're a liberal, whining is all you've got. You can't really do anything but bitch and whine.

  10. Go to any suburb ,Some times many times you see just as many people in a MC DONALDS DRIVE THROUGH AS A GROCERY STORE. THERE ARE DRIVING $49,000.00 CARS AND BUYING JUNK FOOD AND THEY ARE SURROUNDED BY GROCERY STORE, FARMS FOR PRODUCE. BUILD A MC DONALDS AND THEY WILL COME.

  11. Capitalism fills a vacuum. If there was money to be made by a grocery store in the hood someone would open one up. I love the people that bit hard about it. Why don't YOU open one? Oh, what's that you don't want to deal with the people that live around there and the certain bankruptcy when it fails because you can't make any money? I guess someone else should go lost their ass opening up something doomed to fail.

  12. Well, count your blessings. You may not have grocery stores but you do have crack houses aplenty. Crack whores are in good supply too. Any kind of drugs available 24/7. No chance of getting arrested because KCPD officers are total chickenshits. Life is good in the hood.

  13. I don't see a problem. Rob the mcDonalds. Carjack a customer. Go buy a Colt 45 malt liquor 40. Go to the grocery store.

  14. I live in the Sticks now but was pretty much raised in KC. They think they live in a fucking food desert how do they think we make it in the country LOL. I wonder if it is crossed the minds of just one of these fucking Meatheads to plant a vegetable garden. I highly fucking doubt it. Way too much work!

And tony, for the love of GOD,I am not a goddamn robot!!!

  15. McDonald's is actually pretty healthy, probably healthier than most food frim food trucks .
This about bringing starter jobs to a community that has basically been ignored.
McDonald's also gives money back to schools.
I doubt many of the hipsters wouldn't think twice or bat an eye at a trendy church owned coffee house, or an overpriced sundry store.
Gates is in negotiations with a competitive grocery chain on Cleaver.
McDonald's hires and employs 40 to 60 individuals per location , how many trendy white owned coffee house hire young black males? Crickets.

  16. ^^^^Why would ANYONE want to hire a young black male ?! Crickets.

  18. If the urban core is a food desert, why do I see so many obese black women in the hood? I know they don't work but they're eating a lot of food. A whole lot of food.
