KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTER EXCLUSIVE FACT CHECK: DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL TEAM LACKS EXPERIENCE!!!

A lot of locals failed to realize the magnitude of the Hyatt dropout from the Downtown Kansas City Convention Hotel plan.

Accordingly . . .

CHECK KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTERS CALLING FOUL ON THE NEW DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL TEAM AMID THE RECENT SWITCHEROO!!!

Take a look:

Burke’s Convention Motel

Many in Kansas City continue to scratch their heads as to why the Hyatt Hotel Corporation would spend so much time, effort and money teaching Mike Burke, Troy Schulte and the Mayor all about how the hotel convention business works only to quickly and quietly leave, without anything to show for it, in the end. Mike Burke’s response about the Hyatt Corporation not wanting to be apart of the deal any longer just does not fly. Then out of nowhere- Loews Hotels -a small to mid-sized hotel chain that has never built a convention hotel nor operates any is now building the convention hotel.

What is exactly going on?

The convention hotel business is an extremely tough and competitive business and to be successful one needs to know what it is that they are doing and have the wherewithal to do it. Unlike Hyatt, Loews (Burke, Schulte and James for that matter) has no experience running a convention hotel nor do they have the required sales force to market a convention hotel. In the end, this will only steal room nights from existing hotels than drive the business and development originally promised.

  1. Yeah I guess if you own hotels in New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orlando, and Montreal it makes you a RANK AMATEUR and UNABLE to run a hotel properly.

    Right.

    Got it.

  2. ^^^ None of which are convention hotels.

Face it, smaller brand. And they are not taking much risk either.

Care to share the term sheet???

  3. But council members Dan Fowler and Alissia Canady both said they thought Loews was better for Kansas City. They said Loews hotels have a reputation for being even more exclusive than Hyatt in the convention hotel niche.

“They’re willing to put more skin in the game,” Canady said. “Loews, that’s really what their niche is, is convention hotels. This is what they do.”

    Source.

    So I WONDER WHO'S LYING?

Oh but then I remembered The Star is the Lickspittle Main Stream Media In The Pockets of Developers and The Mayor With Their Fat Cat Tax Breaks.

    Right? Right?

  4. Maybe Motel 6 can be the next developer or hotel operator.

  5. Loews runs a decent mid size hotel. They do not have the staff to cater and court convention booking agents, Hyatt does. Hyatt is more professional in this niche. If you're going to have a convention hotel, why not have the operator who can do the most to bring conventions to the city. Our city council is clueless on convention hotel operations and airports. Think about it, Jolie Justus is going to decide who has the best airport plan for KCI??? Scary...

  6. Tony must be angling for to defend another libel suit. Loews Orlando has over 1000 rooms. Perhaps Loews will sue Tony just for the fun of it.

  7. ^^^ Loews isn't suing anybody. They're barely interested in Kansas City.

You keep at it Jason & Mike and you're really going to piss us off. We're being nice right now.

  8. Loews is a discount brand. KC is at the bottom of the barrel now. Maybe we want to rethink this experiment.

  9. Hey Greedo, I hear you've been looking forward to this moment for a long time.

    Sincerely,

    Han Solo

  10. ^^^ LOL!

I guess it gets hard waiting for this hotel to magically appear. They've delayed it at least twice already. Would really like to see something besides drawings on this project IF they're serious.

  11. The problem is that nobody has any skin this game except KCMO. It is the Vista Hotel all over again, which had to go bankrupt to finally make it. No amount of Federal, State, and City money could save it because nobody had any equity in the project. The new hotel is the same way, and it will have to fail to get in the black. Would you invest your money in this project? I think not, so why should KCMO do it. It just makes no financial sense.

  12. The purpose of this project is not to have a well run hotel. The purpose is to steal as much taxpayer money as possible.

When the hotel opens, it will of course be incompetently run. Nobody will care, we will have our focus on the next taxpayer assraping by then.

  13. Gotta love the spirit of the KC shit hole. Building a convention hotel is like continuing to throw parties where no one comes.

  14. Probably because Loews is ponying up more equity than Hyatt was according to the KCBJ.
