Checks bounce for performers at Kansas City Jazz Fest, city provides money to cover it

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- City leaders say they were surprised to learn that several performers at Kansas City's Jazz and Heritage Festival received checks that bounced. The city had to bail out the festival to make sure the performers got paid, spending more than $100,000 of taxpayer money.

Johnny Joe Rizzo is the only guy in this town who can bounce a $100,000 check and walk away without any shit on his shoes

  5. Four years ago, an organizer left the contract employee sheet containing the addresses, social security numbers, etc. on the back of a golf cart during the festival. It was either lost or stolen and every persons information was compromised to include off duty police, medics, etc. the employees weren't paid for four months which ended up coming from the city as well because the festival didn't make enough profit through attendance to pay people.

    This is nothing new
