KCPD: 1 person found dead in car on Blue Parkway
KC police respond to crash, find person dead inside vehicle and bullet holes on outside
Officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. to Blue Parkway and Kensington Avenue in response to a crash in which the vehicle ended up in front of a Burger King restaurant. Responders found the driver unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
Last year around this time there were only 52 homicides at this point in the year. That's more than a 45% increase by our count.

In 2015, there were 109 homicides:
73 percent of the victims were black (80)
17 percent of the victims were white (18)
9 percent of the victims were Hispanic (10)
73 percent of known homicide suspects are black (54 of 74)
22 percent of known homicide suspects are white (17 of 74)
2 percent of known homicide suspects are Hispanic (2 of 74)
