  1. The obvious programs and professors to be cut, should be African American studies, gender studies, but, no sacred cows will die.

    So, again, fuck MU.

  2. Tutors for minority students will be spared.

  3. The thing is, I dislike seeing good teachers lose their jobs. The 'other' thing is, I can only hope its the waste of academic space teachers like Melissa Glick from the MU campus. I feel certain that there are teachers with very similar radical progressive beliefs in the UMKC theater program. However, like commentators above, it won't be those teachers that lose their positions. Nor will it be the 'diversity coordinator' positions at $125k/year scattered throughout the campus colleges.

  4. Their most memorable program, nationally known, on the chopping block. KC is a GREAT theatre town, far more so than Denver, etc. We need to train the actors, at UMKC, so they can work at the Unicorn, KCAT, the Rep, Spinning Tree, Shakespeare Festival--so KCMO can at least have SOMETHING --SOME REASON TO RIDE THE TROLLEY!! Or attract conventions. You can't have it both ways--promote the town as a tourist attraction--25 million visitors??!!--and then have nothing for them to do but risk their lives strolling the Plaza on summer weekends...

Save the UMKC Theatre Dept. Cut the overpaid diversity division, cut the programs where one can just get the hours cheaper at a community college.

I think the admin figures theatre folk will rally and "get creative", oh brother, while the loser departments will just whine their way into retaining their jobs.

  5. This is a no brainer. Raise tuition cost for the students involved in theater. Then lets see how bad they want it when the tax payers aren't getting the bill and they are. Last time I checked this is an educational institution - not a government funded playground and social club. Put up or shut up, real simple!

  6. Theatre is a business. The MFA program was once tied to what was then Missouri Repertory Theatre. 11:53, I did pay my way through the program. I learned more about deadlines, budgets, project management, collaboration, and how to deal with people then I have ever learned from working in the private/public sector.

  7. Nice retort 12:17Pm. You have to remember people like 11:53 Am are some of the dumbest and most pathetic people in our city. Their opinions don't count for shit, this is the only place where they can spew their garbage. 11:53 is a life-failure who slags others who done better than him. He also has no idea how public education is financed in this country. Last time I checked, public universities were a government funded obligation so really his entire post is a waste of time.
