TWO SCOTTS RUNNING FOR KANSAS CITY MAYOR CANCEL EACH OTHER OUT?!?!

Polling and current political wisdom suggests that Kansas City voters are desperate for a moderate leader who will connect with voters throughout the region and balance big business interests with long neglected neighborhood issues. There is a guy named Scott running for Mayor who promises to do as much, in fact, there are two of them.

Accordingly and because the race for Mayor has already started . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS FEAR TWO SCOTTS RUNNING FOR MAYOR WILL OFFSET ONE ANOTHER AND LEAVE THE ELECTION OPEN TO A NEWBIE!!!

Here's the sitch . . .

Councilman Scott Taylor represents the Southland and his impressive war chest leads all candidates but still hasn't generated much excitement.

Meanwhile, Councilman Scott Wagner is more of a Northland candidate but touts his experience on both sides of the bridge. The only problem is that he started his effort with only a paltry $20K in his campaign coffers in an underwhelming kick-off.

Here's a smarter explanation from a KC Insider:

"It's hard for me to tell them apart and I see them almost every day. If they both stay in, they'll cannibalize each other. They have the same supporters, they know the same people and they'll split the donations right down the middle. It gets worse than that, TWO SCOTTS WILL CONFUSE A LOT OF VOTERS!!! This is the same kind of thing that happened when Funkhouser was elected. Too many council members crowded the race and paved the way in for a guy with no real political experience. This time around, look for a candidate from the urban core to use this opportunity while the Scotts confuse everyone and battle each other toward a mutual defeat."

And if all of local politics is an effort to build a reputation and establish body of work . . . Neither Councilman Scott Taylor nor Councilman Scott Wagner can afford to rely solely on name recognition in their current struggle to take Kansas City's top job.

Developing . . .

  4. "And they will work to balance both business and neighborhood issues".
    Same campaign song, 346th verse.
Once any of these folks are elected, they get a few visits from the Chamber swells, usual suspect insiders, and corporate campaign contributors and are told what they'll do, how it will be done, who will actually make the decisions, and who will benefit.
    Spoiler alert!
It won't be the neighborhoods or residents.
KCMO municipal government campaigns make Lucy and the football look unpredictable.
That's why double-digit voter turnouts are big big deals.
    The taxpayer-funded carnival rolls on!

  13. Wagner probably wouldn't even carry the Northland. He's shit on too many people up there.

  14. In a city of 472,000 residents this is the best that can be found?
You'd be more likely to find people who might actually care about their city, community, and residents by stopping every tenth person who got off the Main Street bus.
And they couldn't possibly know any less about municipal government, financial issues, dealing with other local cities, counties, and state government, or private sector businesses than the gang that's at 12th and Oak now.
    Refill the trough!
Change the names on the doors!
    Repeat.
