TKC EXCLUSIVE BEHIND THE SCENES!!! RAMPANT CITY HALL 'BID RIGGING' FEAR HURTS CHANCES OF EASY BURNS & MAC KANSAS CITY NEW AIRPORT VICTORY?!?!

Embarrassing political fumbling and misplaced trust in the power and popularity of Mayor Sly's office along with the newspaper's inability to influence locals has seemingly worked against one of the biggest companies in Kansas City.

To wit . . .

CITY HALL CHATTER ABOUT BID RIGGING TERRIFIES TEAM SLY AND OTHERWISE BOLD DENIZENS OF THE CORPORATE WELFARE GAME!!!

Most people don't know how municipal contracts are won and/or lost but the corrupt no-bid start to airport talks were an obvious detriment to the discussion and raised the ire of far too many locals.

Now that City Hall is moving in another direction with more time for the process and work to devise a new Request For Proposal . . . The early start for Burns & Mac has hobbled the effort of the company to win what could have been a slam dunk.

The word according one City Council insider:

"None of us are willing to go to jail over this . . . We need the discussion over the future of the airport to be open, transparent and fair . . . When people mention bid rigging. Even Sly's biggest fans start to sweat."

Remember that bid rigging is part of the corruption claims that found the former Mayor of Detroit in jail. And for a time, people loved that guy.

Sadly, bid rigging is commonplace and really one of the best reasons to get into politics.

Nevertheless, the mere mention of this nasty term sends local into a panic.

More inside chatter about the process overall:

"Sly is backing off because he knows that a billion dollar project is too big to do wrong. This kind of thing could literally destroy the finances and image of Kansas City for years. Giving away all of the airport revenue isn't something that we're going to do over a nice scotch. I'm glad to see the Mayor and his pals realize that tweeting and complaining on message boards isn't going change the need for us to fulfill our duty to get the best deal for Kansas City and the future of the airport."

Additionally . . .

To be fair, amid all this background fear about bid rigging, look closely and Burns & Mac is quickly changing their rhetoric, welcoming competition and trusting in their company's reputation to win the EPIC contract rather than relying on Mayor Sly's fiery speeches and causal dismissal of insider influence on this deal.

And so . . .

It's not newspaper editorials or blogging or the rhetoric of d-bag consultants on chat shows that has changed the airport conversation . . . It's the fear of a single term that might cost a YUUUGE local company more than a billion bucks and has redirected the otherwise bold supporters of a Mayoral administration who were ready to to leave their legacy but now seem much more timid about their pie-in-the-sky dreams.

  10. I will give you the real inside scoop here TKC.

You are close here but igoring the obvious because of your personal friendships. You are too close to it, back up to see how this really happened.

It is Mike Talboy who screwed up this deal and rubbed council the wrong way. He is the one who fumbled the plan, Sly's major fault is only that he thought that is would work too. Now with the longer timeline, if burns and Mac doesn't get this, were talking about a miscalculation with billions.

  11. Sly doesn't really care if a billion dollar deal is done wrong.
What he cares about is getting caught red-handed at the scam he was trying to pull in behalf of his biggest corporate contributor and backer and the potential personal legal liabilities this whole smelly mess still has the potential for.
Just follow the money and keep in mind that Sly and most of these other folks have only their own best interests in mind and you'll never be far off the trail.

  13. Sly is a stupid mother fucker and greedy but he does have survival instincts. He does not want to end up in prison like the other coon from Detroit

  14. How the heck did B&M think trying to pull a fast one was a good idea?

Doesn't compute that they'd try something so stupid.

There would have been a way to do something to jump start the airport but now they got caught reaching for the candy jar.

    Strange.

  15. The fake news poll published actually makes it look like getting voter approval could be difficult, if you read between the lines.

It will be even harder now that there's a rigged crony deal. People won't like that.

Vote no on the crony airport ripoff!

  16. City needs to get out of the airport business. Sell KCI to PortKC for $1. Then we wouldnt have any need for the e-tax anymore.

  17. You can add bond fraud to bid rigging! Look closely at the hotel. We're gonna haft to put a new wing on Leavenworth! Most of the council, Slie and Troy and Burk will all end up there.
