TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY EFFORT TO SAVE KCI RISES AGAIN AND PUSHES FOR REMODEL OPTION!!!

As always, our blog community strives to depict all aspects of the local discourse and here's an alternative perspective that needs to be highlighted.

To wit . . .

THE OPTION TO REMODEL KCI RATHER THAN BUILD A NEW AIRPORT IS ONCE AGAIN GAINING MOMENTUM!!!

And once again we're back to talking about travel issues the that haven't been answered by proponents of a new airport.

More important than anything else and something that EVERYONE is overlooking: A new airport won't solve long security lines courtesy of the TSA.

Here's the word and more detail:

KANSAS CITY VOTERS: THE REMODEL PLAN FOR KCI IS NOT DEAD!

We need to let council know we are still interested in a remodel. The current KCI configuration serves the flying public best.

It can be easily enhanced and no-one has proven different.

The airlines want to control the number of gates, so they can control passenger traffic and ticket / concession prices.

The STPs (Single Terminal Propagandists) tell us there is no option for a remodel but there are plans out there which answer all the STPs concerns, visibility and parking, etc.. Plumbing, electrical, etc. is a given.

The RFP/Q eliminated a remodel (so far). It is not too late to resubmit a fair and balanced RFP/Q to the interested parties. They are still trying to jam this down our throats. Remember the voters will have the final say in November. If the SPTs control the November ballot and don't list your choice, you can vote NO!

  1. It's a good idea but then where would be get all the political payoffs?

  2. Crony deal would be voted down. It's now under such a cloud of skullduggery and misfeasance.

Remodeling for a fraction of the price has always been the ideal solution.

    Save and improve KCI!

  3. There's a lot of murmuring about the reputations of the people involved in trying to pull a fast one.

Can't say more, but the impact will be lasting in this small town where people remember who was tricky cute in their dealings.

  4. Yeah, a new airport is for airlines' convenience, not travelers'.

A new airport would mean long TSA lines because that's cost-efficient and convenient for the airlines. The dropoff-pickup configurations are another cause of inconvenience for travelers.

Frequent flyers know how supposedly modern airports work in other cities. The flyer is treated like chattel.

Yes, KCI needs some obvious upgrades. But they dan be done in an evolutionary fashion and the airport's convenience retained.

  5. The airlines are part of the rigging scheme. They want fewer gates so that upstart airlines won't be able to start new, competitive service.

  6. Planes and airport architecture have not changed that much in 40 years. Cutting edge parking design then, why not now ? Add a f...en BBQ that seems to be the only gripe.

  7. What independent financial expert has evaluated the unique financing approach, its advantages, its disadvantages, its risks, its comparative attributes versus traditional municipal financing, and so on?

We're talking about more than a billion dollars folks!

  8. Honestly, I really like the Mexican restaurant that's on the other sude of security now. And, of course the bar there or in the terminal is OK.

  9. Rehab is they way to go. Don't want my prices going up so BM can make more money.

  10. That one terminal design would make inconvenience by causing longer walks from parking and longer lines in screening, and more. It sets up wearied captives who are likely to be grabbing snacks and drinks. Like brewskis & eats at sports stadiums and theaters, high prices will ensure bigly profit.

Prior votes and studies already say a single terminal is FUBAR. A remodel, in phases, is the best stewardship of resources.

  11. Remodel not replace. People who NEVER fly should be aware that they will pay for a new airport through increased taxes. Again, let me state that the airlines will NEVER pay for a completely new terminal. They only pay rent for their space in the terminal. The City and the new terminal proponents are not telling the truth when they say the airlines will pick up the tab. They will not. Voters - please push for a rehab because it's YOUR MONEY at stake.
