It gets weird in the other direction too. The biggest city in Colorado is named after (ready for this?) a governor of Kansas. Not only that, but Denver (the city, as well as the guy) originally WAS in Kansas. So Kansas missed the boat, not only by failing to annex KCMO, but by letting a bunch of pushy easterners put a new state around Denver.
What happens when you're trying to be a state and all your major civilization are belong to someone else?
Don't forget North Kansas City and Kansas City North! Because as awesome as Kansas City is, the folks in charge of naming the surrounding areas had no imagination. Well, except for the folks in Peculiar, who at least had a sense of humor.
65,000 people per day wonder that.
