Fireworks at Longview Lake for Fourth of July fizzle amid Jackson County budget cuts

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. -- For the first time in five years, the skies above Longview Lake will be quiet this Fourth of July Weekend. The county announced the cancellation its annual fireworks show due to budget cuts. "Tough decisions have to be made at budget time and this is one of the hardest," Michelle Newman, Director of Jackson County Parks and Recreation, said.

For fuck sake just announce it back in February that you aren't going to be holding this waste of tax money July 4th event and don't wait until the last minute.

  2. The county should cut a hell of a lot more wasteful spendig. This is a place where they raise property taxes on fixed income elderly so they can blow money on entertainment and build spots stadiums. What fucked up priorities. You clowns that want fireworks just stop off at a fireworks stand and leave the tax payers out of it.
