Challenging The Kansas City No Vote Toy Train Streetcar Berkley Park Extension

Local voters are picking their battles and a rather useless bit of toy train extension is so far unchallenged . . .

Nerveless an AWESOME TKC READER offers an important suggestion . . .

"Before spending a lot of money on putting streetcar tracks in, wouldn’t it make sense of offer express bus service between the City Market and Berkley Park? Then there could be an accurate assessment of the demand for public transportation between those two points.

"Maybe it is a situation where the developer wants a tourist attraction to help his tax abated project in the Riverfront area. If that is the case, shouldn’t the developer pay for the entire project rather than the overtaxed citizens of KCMO?"

You decide . . .

  1. The streetcars are a perfect fit for Berkeley Park.
It's usually empty and so are they.
Let's focus wasted tax money in one place!

  2. Nah, just build it. See you there!

  3. The idiom "throwing good money after bad" refers to spending more money on something problematic that one has already spent money on, in the (presumably futile) hopes of fixing it or recouping one's original investment.

  4. Perfect marriage: A problematic do-nothing fake train with a line that extends to do-nothing-mayor park.

Stop lights on an interstate highway, paying millions of ransom dollars per year to Cordish, an empty downtown arena, and "fake riverboat" casinos not withstanding, this train is the worst idea ever forced down the throats of Kansas City taxpayers.

Berkeley was absolutely a useless mayor (in a long line of them, which still continues.)

Next up? They will force the new KCI on us, as well.
    Then what?

  5. It makes perfect sense to extend the bus from City Market to the Isle of Capri Casino. But white people in Kansas City won't ride buses.

  6. ^. White people, won't ride busses because they don't want to get rolled by black predators.

  7. There would only be one beneficiary of this extension and that would be the developer. So it’s pretty clear who should burden the cost of this fiasco.

  8. "… could bring people and jobs and life back to the Riverfront is what this is all about," Gerend explained. We have heard that before and the existing trolley disproves this theory.
