Take a look:

Update on Hotel, Airport And Streetcar

After two weeks of attempted intimidation and bullying from the NO BID downtown convention hotel developers, let me thank all of you who gathered signatures or signed our Referendum Petition to put the NO BID downtown convention hotel on the November ballot. On Friday afternoon, CFRG turned into the City Clerk signatures to place the NO BID downtown convention hotel on the November ballot. Now we taxpayers can decide whether or not we want to spend our tax money on this project. By the time the process is finished, we will have had over 10,000 KCMO voters sign our petitions to get this NO BID convention hotel on the ballot. We think that speaks pretty clearly the public wants their say on this project. BUT it is not over, read on.

There is a lot going on so we thought we would forward a heads up. The City Council is off this week but it will all start again next week. The Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney and some of their sheeple on the city council will begin the process of doing several things which are not in the best interest of the KCMO taxpaying voters. You pretty much know who the culprits are!

> They will try to pass an MOU on the new Burns and McDonnell NO BID single terminal airport plan without even being able to verify the B$M guys have any assets. More on that later.

> Then they will try to thwart our Referendum Petition on the NO BID downtown convention hotel with a new ordinance #170394 adding some things, changing zoning, etc. They believe this will render our Referendum Petition invalid. We will need to get active and let the council know how the voters feel. Again these hotel guys and gal have never produced a balance sheet or let the council know who the “investors” are. Maybe they don’t have any. They appear to have no assets yet some on our council are willing to fork over, free of charge, our funds from the convention and visitors bureau ($35,000,000), our land ($5,000,000) and our future income from property taxes plus incentives ($127,000,000). All totaled $167,000,000, over half the cost of the NO BID downtown convention hotel. Any council member not challenging this new NO BID downtown convention hotel ordinance is not qualified to be the Mayor of our great city.

Here’s where it starts:

FINAL AIRPORT MEETING: Monday June 5TH 5:30 pm at the Bruce R Watkins Cultural Center, 3700 Blue Parkway, Kansas City, MO.

This will be an excellent location to raise the question of what the city is doing under its legal obligation to protect the history of the life and graves of slaves and plantation owners in Platte County.

Try to get some answers from B$M who have never built an airport from the ground up. Where are their assets? What do they own? How can they support a $2 - $3 billion project if it experiences problems? and on and on…

  1. Good to see that somebody is paying attention.

No bid contracts aren't good for voters or city hall. We need to be open and watching out for other options.

    What The Fuck!!!???
I want answers but this^^^ is fucking bullshit!!! Why wasn't the issue of a gravesite brought up at the airport???
Do you old cranky guys think only central core residents have respect for the final resting place of the dead?!!

    You make me sick.

Answers to off-the-chart development projects are needed. Your lame biases made your lives a misery. Keep that shit to yourselves.

  4. the crony airport process is a sham.

there has been no due diligence on the financial structure.

no expert has looked over the structure.

not just a sham but a farce.

the fun will be when it goes awry later on, but that'll be sad, too.

  5. This is typical KCMO headed by S'lie James and company. These people that we have in office are NOT good stewards of our tax dollars. They along with their corporate buddies see our tax dollars as an unlimited piggy bank they can crack open whenever something needs funding they can't or are not willing to fully find themselves.

Again, it should NOT be the responsibility of tax payers to ensure the financial success of private projects. We hear it ALL THE TIME. About how company needs x-amount of incentives to make their private project financially viable. That's the equivalent of saying that because I can't afford a $1M dollar home on my own that it's the responsibility of government to give me the funds so that I can.

Also, it's funny that we can never see the raw numbers behind these projects to determine if our funds are really needed in the first place. People like S'lie and governments like the one in KCMO have made it the "new normal" to just give away our tax dollars with next to no transparency. Then they have the nerve to get upset and defensive when someone questions them about it.

It's this kind of shit that got us in the situation we have with the P&L where we have to use $14M dollars per year to cover the bonds for the P&L because Queen Kay and her buddies at Cordish flat out LIED and said tax payers wouldn't have to pay a dime towards the P&L. Not only did we help fund it just to get the plan off the ground but we also have to fund it yearly for the foreseeable future due to the movers and shakers in this town playing loose and free with our tax dollars. How many police officers could that $14M per year pay for? How much infrastructure could that money go towards.

And here we are again about to GIVE Hyatt $160 million dollars to fund THEIR hotel so THEY can make money mostly on our dime. Seems fair, right?

  6. Great way to start my day, with an email from CFRG toting corruption and conspiracy. I love this town.

  7. How in the hell do you "no bid" a project of this magnitude??? First of all, most government purchases/contracts have to have three bids. Second, ol' Bowtie and his cohorts must think we're a bunch of illiterate idiots who don't pay attention to what is going on (wrong, Mr. Mayor). Third, if you believe that KCMO taxpayers won't get absolutely screwed on this, you are indeed an idiot. Shenanigans as usual at City Hall.

  8. City Hall is channeling Chicago's Mayor Daley! Thank you, KC MO for keeping up my Kansas home value! School talk, anyone?
