Now . . .

CLINT'S COMICS OWNER JIM CAVANAUGH REPORTEDLY KILLED AMID MIDTOWN ARMED ROBBERY SCUFFLE!!!

Here's first news of the tragedy:

KSHB: Officers were called to 39th and Walnut on an armed robbery. When officers arrived they found a man in his 60s who had suffered life-threatening injuries. Police said the suspect had stolen from a local store in the area and ran out. One worker from the business ran outside to confront the suspect and was struck by the suspect vehicle's door. The victim later died from his injuries.

KMBC: Authorities said the older man was hit by the vehicle's door. Witnesses said he fell to the ground and hit his head. He was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and died.

MSM isn't reporting the name of the victim but social media tribute is already lamenting the loss of Mr. Cavanaugh.

Jim Cavanaugh and his family have owned Clint's Comics in midtown since 1975.

Witnesses said the suspect appeared to be bald, in his mid-40s and wearing white basketball shoes and glasses in a newer model white hatchback.

Witnesses are putting these surveillance cam footage on blast to help find the suspect . . .

    1. Pitch says this: No arrest has been made. KMBC Channel 9 reports that witnesses say the suspect was white and "appeared to be bald, in his mid-40s and wearing white basketball shoes and glasses. Rule of thumb, if no race is given its usually white. Blacks, Latinos, and Muslims are always identified.

  8. Right near the new streetcar route. I think we need more police and better buses instead. I wish Jim would have had more support at his location.

  9. Other sites are saying about white suspect. A couple of guys from the bar next door saw him. RIP. Another senseless murder, this time over 20 bucks in comics.

  11. I met Clint when I moved here in '75 and he was i the process of selling to Jim and his family and told me the guy buying it would be a great fit for the area. He was right. Jim was just a super individual that would do anything for anybody. Just a damned shame and my heart goes out to his family and I hope the person responsible meets his maker sooner rather than later.

  18. 7:31 is right to point out that the mayor is doing virtually *nothing* about crime in KC. And shame on us for getting upset only *after* a white shop owner dies, because this has been going on for years in KC's urban core. KCPD is only a small part of the issue, but we've shifted resources away from urban core services and youth investment into retrofitting downtown into a subsidized party zone for middle class and wealthy, white individuals. Our priorities are all wrong and I am truly disheartened that Mr. Cavenaugh and his family suffered this tragedy as a result of greed.

  21. Truly a shame. I've been a customer at Clints for several decades. Jim was always a refreshing personality. Very old school. Said what was on his mind and didn't mince many words. When I was younger I'd often sit in his show a little longer than I probably should have just to listen to him talk. Very cool old guy. Due to where I live I can't go there as often as I used to but I'd go by the shop on occasions when I was in the area and he'd be there like always.

    He'll be missed.

It's a real shame the priorities in this city. Things like convention center hotels, streetcars and malls that double as airports take precedence over little things like public safety, schools and infrastructure. It wouldn't shock me at all if this story doesn't even cross our Mayor's brain as his focus is on his precious pet projects.
