Lament For Kansas City Royals 2017

Better than any column we've read from the mostly fanboy local sports press . . . This article goes a long way toward offering an accurate few of troubles for the home team.

KoK: The Demise of the Kansas City Royals Explained

Premise:

"The Kansas City Royals 2017 is all but down the drain. The offense is bad, the bullpen is not the best, and the offense is bad again. After coming off an 81-81 season mostly depleted by injuries. The KC Royals were confident in their 2017 roster to put together another postseason run. However, an 8-17 start is not exactly what gets you into the postseason. Trade rumors are already starting to swirl as the teams stars are set to hit free agency after the season ends. So, how did decades of misery only account for two seasons of success?"

The author dances around the obvious . . .

BASEBALL IS MONEYBALL AND THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS FRONT OFFICE IS TOO CHEAP TO COMPETE FOR VERY LONG!!!

And so, local fanboys have stopped going to the games an only the diehard loyalists remain . . . Those who can appreciate the game and spot players who might go onto better careers after they leave town. The bright side of all this is that Kansas City can stop pretending that Dayton Moore is a genius or that hometown pride has anything to do with recruiting hired guns from the Dominican Republic to win games. Now that the team is slumping and the JoCo middle-class have given up . . . I might even start wearing my Royals cap again.

Comments

  1. I think the owners sit down before the season begins and decide who is going to win. Winners make money for the team owners, so it makes sense to spread the love around the leagues.

  2. ^^^^ +1

absolutely seems like the way it works for the past few years. Ad revenue is far too important to leave to chance.

  3. There are 30 ML teams. At that rate the average team would play in a world series every 15 years and win one every 30 years. The Royals have played 48 season thru 2016 and have won two world series and played in 4, above the ML average. Yes they were bad for an extended period of time thanks to our civic leaders screwing up Mr K's succession plan. But any true baseball fan knows and accepts that no team will be good every year.
