Kansas City Confronts Costly Convention Hotel Contest From Cities Across The Nation

EPIC convention hotels are the new hotness for developers across the nation . . . Every city seems to be building their own costly complex in hopes of attracting more tourist dollars.

Cincinnati is just the latest example.

To which our blog community replies: "It's the SAME argument being made in KC. These guys aren't even original. How is KC going to benefit from a new hotel when EVERYONE wants to build one?"

You decide . . .

  1. Developer only make money when they can con municipalities into "developing" something. It is a "con" game being run on cities and their tax paying residents.

  2. There are probably 25 cities in the US that are somewhat similar in size to KC. Every one of them is playing musical chairs with professional sports and doubling down on a shrinking convention business.

The winners will be the ones that quit subsidizing billionaire sports owners and conventions and instead support the businesses they already have. The losers will look more and more like Detroit.

  3. If KC had what attracts conventions we would not have to beg and scrape and screw over the tax payers to get a hotel. This is going to be another addition to the party no one comes to.

  4. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the hotels are only full about 3 weeks a year, they run about 10% the rest of the year

  5. Is cinch saying they're losing on average 274 visitors per day?
