TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY RAGES AGAINST PROPOSED PREZ TRUMP TRANSIT BUDGET CUTS THREATENING TOY TRAIN STREETCAR EXTENSION!!!

Kansas City's quaint and smallish streetcar line is a success for the political elite but many locals have an alternative view of the expensive transit project now under threat by the President's budget.

Critics of the toy train cite a corrupt election to establish the line, phony ridership propaganda numbers and the current secret election currently underway that continues the tradition of disrespect for local Democracy and voter suppression.

Accordingly . . .

PREZ TRUMP BUDGET CUTS ARE THE BEST HOPE FOR KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR CRITICS AGAINST CITY HALL ATTACKS ON LOCAL DEMOCRACY THAT PUSH THE TOY TRAIN FORWARD!!!

Even better . . .

CHECK THIS SCREED FROM MAYOR SLY ATTACKING PREZ TRUMP CUTTING BACK ON KANSAS CITY FAKE TRANSIT!!!

Checkit:

The Hill - Mayor Sly James: Trump’s proposed cuts to federal transit funding will harm American cities

Money Line:

"As he considers priorities for his budget and plans for revamping the nation’s infrastructure to make it “second to none,” President Trump should call up mayors and business owners in places like Oklahoma City and Kansas City, Salt Lake City and Seattle and ask them what streetcars have meant for the people living and working in their cities.

"I’m confident he’ll learn a lot about streetcars as an economic dynamo and a critical form of transportation in cities across the country."

But here's the kicker that local media has failed to report . . .

Accordingly . . .

HIPSTER GOOD TIMES AND FAUX TRANSIT IN KANSAS CITY IS VERY FAR DOWN THE LIST OF PRIORITIES FOR DEMOCRATIC PARTY DENIZENS FIGHTING PREZ TRUMP'S BUDGET!!!

We'll give the last word to a KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER who sent a note on the topic our way . . .

"All of the 1.8 billion in new investment in KCMO was bought with massive tax breaks from City Hall and would have happened without the trolley. 12th & Oak claims 80% of the businesses have seen increased revenue? Come for a ride on the streetcar and you will see block after block of empty store fronts. Is the streetcar a "transportation option" for residents??? Surely the mayor is jesting. There is virtually no ridership during the week, the tourist show up and ride it on the weekend. The trolley is an expensive tourist attraction that this City can not afford."

You decide . . .

  1. TDD legislation needs to be reformed. Close the loop hole so that these crooked elections are stopped.

  4. Unless the Toy Train Streetcar goes from my front door to my office, this bit of economic electricity is not interested in passing thru the "economic dynamo".

  5. The mayor did his part and it likely won't be successful. Make no mistake; he's already working on a plan to fund the expansion without federal $. Shouldn't be too difficult since the $800 M GOBonds freed up so much of the general fund.

However, at least five of our council members want to be the next mayor and even if they support streetcar, would they saddle KC taxpayers with streetcar expansion debt without a citywide vote?

  6. City Hill really thinks people are stupid when they say that the Streetcar is the reason for downtown economic development. It's helped, but it would have happened without the streetcar. Developers are stupid. They know the national statistics of millennials and empty nesters wanting to move downtown and pay for expensive rentals. They know that Kansas City's real estate prices are far lower than other cities. They know that there has been plenty of available land downtown for development, and in most cities, that's not true. In many cities you have to buy a building and tear it down or renovate it for new development. They know that Kansas City is a bargain for development and on top of that, they get free 15 year tax abatements. That's why they're developing properties downtown, not only because of the streetcar. And besides, most of the residents in those expensive downtown apartments probably don't work along the streetcar line anyway.

If they read this blog that could be their only possible conclusion.

  7. O.K. This mayor is a real clown. " Trumps purposed cuts will hurt American cities?" NOT, What hurts American cities are people like Sly James and also the liberals who are coming here from California because they have mess up their cities so bad they can't live there anymore.

Trump is saying get off of your ass and stop depending on freebies.

Keep Missouri clean GO BACK TO CALIFORNIA

  8. There is a such thing as a "budget" in this country. And sometimes a budget means you have to make tough cuts and choices. When you're coming up short in your personal life you probably have to start cutting back on some of the luxuries like having 50 million cable channels, and gigabit internet, and unlimited wireless data and such until you get back in the black in your budget. That's just the way "budgets" work.

I know that people like S'lie James want to tax, borrow and spend for things like streetcars and hotels. But, that falls in line with "luxury" items in a "budget". And when middle America is already facing HIGH taxation everywhere, you gotta make some tough, deep cuts. Just the way it is.

  9. Trying to sell streetcars as the answer to a crime ridden, corrupt, bankrupt city is a stretch even for a con man like Sly.

  10. "streetcars have increased property values"

  13. Quick History Of KCMO ToyTrain

Scheme hatched to benefit real estate developers.
KCMO politicos sign on with promises of campaign cash and favors.
Real estate and/or options gobbled up along proposed ToyTrain line.
Route planned to maximally benefit scheme.
City steers massive amount of direct/indirect dollars into scheme.
Developers laugh all the way to the bank!

    Power and Light District?
    Sprint Center?
    Light One Tower?
    Light Two Tower?
    ToyTrain?
    Convention Center Hotel?

None of it possible without massive taxpayer subsidization!

You can have a gold-plated, diamond-encrusted streetcar with Lazy Boy seats that's free for all riders.....as long as the taxpayer foots the bill....because a privately run business would never operate in such a foolish manner. KCMO city government only exists in these types of situations because they abuse their power to tax citizens.

  14. All the new luxury apartment developments proposed for Westport and The Plaza are because of the streetcar!

Oh wait the streetcar hasn't been built yet to the Plaza.

  19. Sadly Bryan M. Stalder, Esq is right. Because of the bond passage, Sly will take money from the general fund and proceed. There is no stopping this idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @9:34. What's cool about it is that with the $800M blank check passing, he'll take money from the general fund for the streetcar extension and file it as "Infrastructure Improvements" along Main Street/streetcar line.

  22. PBS - Progressive/socialist/liberal Biased Syndicate

This past Wednesday's "Indivisible" was blatant with the bias. Segments with White House correspondent April YA KNOW? Ryan was followed by Micheal MORON Moore. I lost count of the times Ryan uttered "Ya know?" between her clipping off the ends of her sentences, and interrupting callers. It was so obvious that "Moses", a black man who said he voted for Trump and wants a new direction for America, raised April's ire noticeably. She tried cutting Moses off, but he kept on it. He said he's concerned more about national security and the overall economy, than about race relations (saying disharmony is overstated too often). Moses proclaimed GREEN is the color he, and very many people he knows, are concerned with. He laid out how he's worked at a decent position, but now worries about good dental health, paying his mortgage, and keeping his daughter in college at Spellman.

Moore's gimmicks and grumbling his same ol' crap on Conservatives/Christians/Common Sense was too much for me, so I changed to music radio at midway.

  23. We have calculated that autonomous pools of shuttles could cover this for a small fraction of the cost, and more responsively. There is a reason that Streetcar recently bought two more cars, they were routinely having wait times of 10-15 minutes, with the number of cars they have for a basic linear stretch that is not very good.

The existing Streetcar is a reality, but an extension is a local pork trough for the insider hogs, and we don't need it, extend with autonomous shuttles.

The Mayor has a pleasant enough personality, but getting the details, right, management, execution, priorities, those seem beyond him.

If the old switcheroo is the infrastructure fund goes to the Streetcar, then you should never trust anything about the processes of City Hall, particularly giving them benefit of the doubt on a blank check.

The city has gotten too used to setting up local pork for insiders, you know the usual suspects. Time for that to stop and that should not be partisan.

The merger defeat is a good precedent, KCPL can't just buy policy behind the scenes, neither can the Mayors hogs at the trough.

There are real improvements that have been made in KC, but there are pretenders or costly alternatives with poorly considered opportunity costs.

Tesla or Google or GM or Softbank ought to be making announcements very soon that will make Streetcar extension absurd. Notice how the cost of new Streetcars to serve existing system have not been transparently costed, along with anything else Streetcar related. Also notice that the Streetcar has so little relevance to the overall transit system as a solution. Watch what tech industry does next. Do you really think Sly has out thought the tech industry leadership on this one, laughable.

Anyone who can still think can see KCMO leadership is over their heads, basically incoherent, and doesn't really know what they are doing at this point other then just indiscriminately flinging money at things hoping the problems will go away all while bloviating about how vibrant and frosty everything is.

  31. Slime is naturally born from the "gibs me dat" culture. They live from cradle to grave with one hand out thinking that EVERYTHING is financed by the magical money tree. They have no concept that taxpayers are on the hook for these pie-in-the-sky projects, and even if they did they wouldn't care. It's all about instant gratification and living way beyond one's means. KCMO has become a grade A, first-class shit hole but Slime and his sheep have stiffies because of the trolley. Something that is on par with the trams that shuttle people from parking lots at airports and amusement parks is being touted as a a futuristic, public transit marvel. Yeah, very cutting edge, sort of like that cable TV and those new dangled ATM machines. This monkey's ass is an embarrassment to KC, and the sooner he's out of office, the better.
