SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY ECO-DEVO DOESN'T WORK: JUST ASK 18TH & VINE!!!

From the money losing P&L District to the KCMO Jazz District FAIL to the tune of more than $100 MILLION over the past generation . . . Here's more data that reminds locals that handouts don't really work. Take a peek:

Economic Development Policies Still Failing

Steve Rose may not care what the research tells us, but the research is mounting. Studies by UNC-Chapel Hill, the St. Louis Development Corporation and now the Upjohn Institute for Employment Research all confirm that economic development subsidies just don't work.

  1. It depends on what you mean by does/doesn't work. If you mean do economic development subsidies spur business development, create jobs, etc., of course they don't. But if you mean do economic development subsidiaries transfer gobs of taxpayer money to political cronies, they work great.

  2. What happens when this pretend prosperity of construction ends and people discover there really is nothing being produced much less drive wages up. How many major employers producers of goods have moved here. Besides taxpayer subsidized Cerner.

  6. It's very telling when even black-owned businesses can't make it in the 18th & Vine District. How many times has a restaurant (black-owned) tried to stay in business, without success. The black community can't support their own, and the white folks won't go down there, day or night.
