KCPT Scribe Confronts White Privilege

Here's a reminder that the fading Kansas City newspaper no longer has the monopoly on tragic screeds from inside the tiny bubble of cowtown social justice warriors . . . Read this not-so-scary teaching moment involving a local neighborhood watch confrontation and hurt feelings all around . . .

The Entitlement We're All Given

This week a White Privilege Conference comes to town. Although I'm sure it will be very instructive for many people, I won't be going. Not because I'm against the conference in theory; I'm just incredibly self-protective these days about certain conversations. See, I'm as sick of hearing about white privilege as many white people are.

  2. What happened to Michelle was wrong. The guy who gave her the 3rd degree about her "business in his neighborhood" was wrong. I'm sure he could justify his behavior as someone who was just being careful when strangers appear. I often see strange cars in my neighborhood. I don't question the drivers because God knows how dangerous that would be. There is so much fear and distrust on both sides of the racial divide. Not sure if there is a solution to this problem.

  3. Yes 1034, there is a solution

  7. Please consider the following:

The nosy neighbor who inquired what she was doing sitting in her car in front of his house was being a proactive Neighborhood Watch leader. You actually want a couple of these people on your block, as they're quick to spot outsiders and ready to phone police if someone starts trouble. Ms. Johnson's mistake was interpreting this homeowner's vigilance for racism, and getting into a verbal spat with him. She could have just as easily explained that she was picking up her friend and thanked the man for keeping the neighborhood safe. It's all in your attitude.

Ms. Johnson's attitude tends toward her own racism, viewing non-blacks as suspicious and untrustworthy. Why did she mention that her car was a new Fiat? Is it because she's defensive and envious of what some others enjoy?

If you look at Michelle T. Johnson's Linked-In profile (this is how she describes herself):

So, she's a non-practicing lawyer, who's making a career based on her "blackness", tapping into the plethora of diversity/inclusion/social justice programs that government and corporate entities feel obligated to sponsor, lest they be accused of racism and discrimination. Sounds like a racket to me.

  13. The writer assumes, without any evidence at all, that the neighbor would not ask the same question if a lone white person did the same thing as she did. The privilege she identifies is in her imagination.

Now ask her about racial preferences in employment and education. That's called black privilege.

  19. I was born and raised in southern Mo. My grandparents had a black maid who worked for them for more than 50 years. We loved her; she was a member of the family. Although she's been dead for years now, I often think of just how horrified she would be at the way so many blacks carry themselves today. Sadly, her generation that did so much to improve the lives and characterization of blacks has to be spinning in their graves.
