KANSAS CITY COUNCILMAN QUINTON LUCAS STAYS WINNING INFRASTRUCTURE FORUM!!!

Behind the scenes, Kansas City political denizens are already talking about who they're going to run for Mayor and Councilman Quinton Lucas keeps earning one favorable mention after the next.

To wit . . .

CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE . . . COUNCILMAN QUINTON LUCAS TALKED INFRASTRUCTURE FACE TO FACE WITH KANSAS CITY TAX FIGHTERS AND TURNED A DEBATE INTO A BORING DISCUSSION!!!

The talent of the 3rd District At-Large Council Dude is talking to constituents from across the city and over-analyzing issues until everyone feels smarter and/or out of breath.

More importantly . . . While Mayor Sly played chicken amid this conversation . . . Councilman Lucas demonstrated a great deal of political courage in showing up to this talk and offering nuanced opinions about development, priorities and all of those "shovel ready" projects that City Hall keeps touting.

You decide . . .

  1. If Sly can't even keep his appointments, then why is he still mayor?

  2. Not as many tough questions for Troy as I would have liked. These conversations tend to be a lot nicer than any other discussions in KC and the lead-up chest thumping never pans out.

Either way, the fact is that if you don't like how infrastructure works now in KCMO, talk to Troy. More than anyone else, that is his responsibility. And so far, infrastructure repair just isn't getting done.

  3. In KCMO it's NEVER how some proposal is TALKED about.
What's important is WHAT actually happens and HOW WELL it gets done.
All the proposals, plans, ideas, assertions, promises, and all the rest don't mean beans if the money is directed toward special interest wants instead of taxpayer needs, and the projects themselves get no command attention, adequate supervision, or accountability for results.
It's hard to identify a single city project that has been done well.
And the electeds' attention has already moved on to THE NEXT BIG THING.
More unpleasant surprises and disappointments in store.

  5. Streetcar seems pretty well done. On time, under budget, exceeding ridership expectations, generating more revenue than expected, directly leading to investment as promised, runs more reliably than the buses, and increasing transit ridership.

Lucas is a charismatic, smart speaker. He charms people into believing he is listening, even promising to get back with answers, plans, whatever is being discussed, and then conveniently forgets. EVERY TIME. I don't trust him because he has failed to deliver simple things after promising EVERY TIME.

It was not on time, it was over budget, the ridership numbers are lies, it doesn't generate revenue, it's impossible to claim that any 'investments' are directly linked to the streetcar, it is not more reliable than the buses, & it is not a part of any other 'transit ridership'.

Do you really get paid to say this stuff on Tony's blog, that is officially read by no one, & unofficially read by everyone?

  8. Quinton Lucas' Life Is A Charade

    Who is his biological father?

Why did he return to KCMO after being gone so long?

How come he's not a practicing attorney, after going to law school?

What were the circumstances surrounding his landing a teaching position at KU?

If he works in Lawrence Kansas, why does he live (officially) in the 18th and Vine District?

Quinton Lucas is a reformer? Please! He repeatedly pairs up with Sly James to play tag-team against KCMO taxpayers.

Quinton Lucas is a fraud, and don't be fooled by his slick oratory, as that's his primary weapon to disarm opponents. Below the surface, there's nothing of substance.

  9. All I know is Quinton Lucas represents the third district, which is most accurately described as THE THIRLD WORLD DISTRICT. Don't believe me, go look for yourself, a quick drive down 8th street will make you feel like you are in a Brazilian favela.

  10. Talk talk talk. Meanwhile the subsidies keep flowing and mismanagement of the city continues as usual.

  11. Exactly, talk, talk, talk. Get off of your ASS QUINTON and clean up the fucking trash in the third world district!!!

  12. A Byron Funkhouser comment that I totally agree with - mark it on the calendar!

1;20, I SO agree. But at least it's a way to track when city hall flacks are at their desk in the morning. Who needs a clock for punching in? Just note the times of all the pro-trolley, pro-tax, pro-TIF commenters on TKC. The paid hacks are on duty!

Now I know Tony will never do this--but if he just tracked the IP addresses of pro-City Hall commenters, he'd establish that they are using computers at City Hall, at taxpayer expense, to blog anonymously. Or they are using their own cell phones, but still stealing taxpayer dollars to blog when they should be working.

OK, Chuck--time to enlighten us further. I set you up with this easy volley...

  15. the 3d district of the world? That is cruel but accurate.

  16. I watched Quinton in action during a meeting. Glib. Quick on his feet. But a lot like cotton candy. Good, but no substance.

  17. ^^^ Best analysis I've seen of the guy so far. He talks a great game but, so far, that's it.

Shut up! You do know there are many people with law degrees that don't practice law? And you do know that there are people who live in one state and work in another state? And you do know that living costs money, so most of us work. Some people even work two jobs? You seem more concerned about his father than he is. How about you hire a private investigator to find his father. Maybe the two of you can hang out ... drink a beer ...Finally, if you can do a better job than Lucas ... RUN FOR OFFICE!
