TKC BLOG COMMUNITY TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR EXPANSION DELAYED AMID VOTER RAGE!!!

Tonight our blog community reminds us that Kansas City voters aren't yet sold on a bigger streetcar line.

We noted this fact on MONDAY.

We reminded our blog community of it yesterday as well.

Now it's "news" according to the paper . . .

NEWSPAPER: Pressure from City Hall has prompted supporters of Kansas City’s successful downtown streetcar system to delay the elections required to expand the line down Main Street.

Money quote . . .

"(Mayor Sly) James, perhaps the biggest political cheerleader for the system, also expressed his concerns."

But don't breathe a sigh of relief just yet . . .

Here's the new schedule for the toy train extension scheme . . .

Nevertheless . . .

THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR PART DEUX CHEERLEADERS CLAIMED TO HAVE SUPPORT FOR THIS PLAN AND NOW THEY'RE BACKTRACKING REVEALS OTHERWISE!!!

  1. Great.

A victory for TKC sets the whole city backward.

Not good for KC. Not good for ANYBODY!

  2. ^^^^^^^^^ Total B.S., pushing them back is a victory for neighborhoods.

  3. ^^^^^^Totally correct. Pushing them back is a victory for common sense. Eliminating them altogether would be better. No one who is not a potential recipient of the largesse generated by building and maintaining this atrocity can believe fixed rail transit is better than the maneuverable, cheap, and existing bus service we already have.

  4. Streetcar supporters need to understand.

    NO MEANS NO!

Put it to a city wide vote or forget it.

  5. Still not going to the shit out hole on the Plaza to get the bluntz ¡

  6. Good riddance.

  7. City Hall only putting the brakes on this because they fear it would sour voters mood for their big tax increase vote for infrastructure.

Infrastructure = what KCMO government has largely ignored for years, while pushing unnecessary luxury projects like ToyTrain, subsidized highrise towers for the wealthy, convention center hotel, new airport, etc.

  9. This is great news. Now let's focus on improving the bus system that might just convince the streetcar lovers that buses can be better than the streetcar for much less cost to the taxpayers and the City.

^^^^^^^^just delaying the inevitable & it will be like everything else in this city. See you guys at the streetcar expansion groundbreaking.

  12. There's nothing stopping any developer from building apartments on Main Street without the streetcar if they really want to. As long as they get their 20 year tax abatements, that's all the developers want

  13. There is no "voter rage." The postponement has nothing to do with any such thing.

  14. Finally some good news. Hopefully City Hall will make them start charging the tourist for using it. KCMO has the only free trolley in the US and possibly the world.

  15. 8:14: Tony's readers all have ADD? I wondered when we see your usual eagerly anticipated ad hominem herf derf, trolley boy. I must say, though, your posts are usually much more CLEVAR. Losing your mojo, oh pride of Coffeyville?
