Craig Talks Kansas City Comedy Weekend

Comedy note from our pal Craig . . .

From Prison To The Comedy Stage And Beyond! Mike Smith.

Stanfords is profiling area comics that over the last several years have made it to national attention in both television and film. This week its one of the most talented, Mike Smith. Smith went to prison as a very young man for selling the devil 'weed.' Upon his release he got into comedy and began doing standup in Westport on open mic nights. In time he became an area favorite and moved on to national attention doing BET Comic View and later HBO 21 and Comedy Central.

Smith was invited to move out to Los Angeles and begin a much bigger career. Mike had two young sons and was a single dad. He decided to stay in KC to raise his boys. Mike felt that this was a better environment for the children and moving to LA was not best for them. He put his career off and headlined around the country but kept KC as his home.

Recently Mike has been in theaters with big name stars like Dave Chappelle. He is not considering a New York tour and with his sons getting older a possible move to the west coast so he can become a more well known star comic. Most that have seen him recognize his great talent. I feel, as many do, that Mike Smith is as good as anyone out there today.

Come see his outstanding comedy this weekend, Friday-Sunday at Stanfords in Overland Park. For tickets call 913 400 7500 or go online to order them at stanfordscomedyclub.com, have a fine dinner before any show with us. Stanfords will profile both AJ Finney who has been on fire with his I-tunes hits and late night tv appearances as well as Tim Gaither, both now stationed in LA. Both started their careers in Kansas City with Stanfords. Have a nice weekend.
