Here's a worthwhile run-down of promises from the streetcar crew compared with reality as ridership is impressive BUT WE'RE STILL WAITING ON THE ECONOMIC BOOM that was cheerleaders touted. Checkit: Kansas City Streetcar Failing by Its Own Standards

And trolley boy will herf derf just as soon as he makes his hourly visit.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tourist trap. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm glad people are riding it but that doesn't justify the expense.
ReplyDeleteKeep trying, you are convincing less than no one.
ReplyDelete^^^^^On the hour, every hour.
ReplyDeleteNo more free ride. Make those tourist using it, pay it. KCMO taxpayers are already overburden.
ReplyDeleteDevelopment? It is an embarrassment to the City for tourist look at all those vacant storefronts along Main Street.
ReplyDeleteIn KCMO, the bus services offered are infrequent and unattractive. It is surely far more effective to serve transit riders with more frequent buses, than chase new ones by wasting money on fancy streetcar lines.
ReplyDeleteStreetcar takes money away from the bus. Always has, always will.
ReplyDeleteA darn expensive tourist attraction. Let's buy the tourist free admission to Worlds of Fun; it would be a lot cheaper.
ReplyDeleteYou lost. People love it. Extension will pass. Show Me state and we got showed.
ReplyDeleteMore Pay Me Institute lies, fuzzy math and data twisting, like when they claim downtown lost millennials, when the data they linked to show a GROWTH in gross number of millennials living downtown, but the PERCENTAGE of millennials living downtown fell...because a lot of the growth downtown in the last 5 years has been empty nesters and adults over 30.
ReplyDeleteData never lies, but Tooley does...
Data never lies
ReplyDeleteROFLMAO!
Put the clunker extension to a city vote.
ReplyDeleteWe'll find out how great the "data" is then won't we.
Hell lower my property value assessment and property tax burden every year for five and a half years like they do for people in the downtown TDD Streetcar district and I might vote yes on the extension!!
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. I'd like $100,000 knocked off my homes taxable assessed value like the streetcar supporters downtown get. I'd be smiling and grinning too. Hell even $50k would work for me. "Grin"
ReplyDelete2:13 & 2:24: Wow. Twice in less than 15 minutes. That's true devotion.
ReplyDeleteI own real estate in the streetcar TDD and my property tax value has not gone down. Who do I contact to get it lowered? it is my belief that the value of my property is way down and I want to see the property tax reduction that goes with decreased value.
ReplyDeleteWe already voted and it was a landslide against streetcar extension. The voters have spoken.
ReplyDeleteThe people "who love it" are treating it like they're suddenly cool and riding a New York subway because they're idiots and have never ridden a New York subway. People who take subways don't take stupid selfies of themselves and are just grateful for a means to get to work since people in those cities don't drive cars. In Kansas City, driving is no problem. The streetcar lovers will fade away once they start charging $1.50 a ride, just like we do with the bus. They're only loving it because it's free.
ReplyDelete"Who do I contact to get it lowered?"
ReplyDeleteI don't know who you have to blow 3:22 but you could start by getting in the clique with the KC Transit Alliance. They could give you some tips.
Raising property values - I always wondered how they got the big property owners Downtown to go along with their screwball scheme. Now it is clear; they were promised reduced evaluations so it wouldn’t cost them anything. Sweet deal for them and the rest of us got to hold the bag.
ReplyDeleteKC needs some fun little things for tourists from surrounding areas can ride. It might look lame to us but if you are from Grand Island, NE it probably seems pretty cool.
ReplyDeletePlus it gives them a free and easy way to get around the entertainment district and keeps them out of the more dangerous area. It's no accident that streetcar doesn't run east.
BRT is the way to go. http://www.riderta.com/healthline/about
