Adverts for the event are littering the streets and breaking the Kansas City sign ordinance . . . But the topic of public safety is far more important than previous feel-good garbage legislation from this politico who is declining in popularity with every ensuing week.
Accordingly . . .
We've heard that this event could bring up to 4k urban core teens near the crossroads this week in the aftermath of a deadly triple shooting only a few days ago. Here's the promo they're showing to white people on social media . . .
But here's a closer look at adverts aimed at urban core youth attending the event . . .

For YEARS we've addressed community complaint that the Mayor's Chief Of Staff John McGurk has been keeping community leaders at arm length and denying access to people with a lot to contribute.
The Mayor claiming ignorance is a convenient argument but NOW that he knows, his second statement on the topic is even more troubling . . .
This kind of empty pleasantry makes it clear that Mayor Sly isn't taking the safety of the youngsters at this event seriously.
REMINDER: JUST LAST YEAR THE MAYOR'S "ROCK THE BLOCK" PARTY ERUPTED IN VIOLENCE!!!
KSHB was forced to note one fight last year . . . Our blog community also documented the chaos which was more widespread than any other media outlet reported.
For those who might argue, that KCMO urban youth aren't politically astute enough to understand or care about Ferguson, Missouri unrest . . . Let's understand that the guy who was fighting the police while still holding a bag of chips probably isn't a political science major either.
More importantly, let's face facts . . .

There's really no down side to this debate, worst case scenario is that our TKC blog community is being overly cautious and this helps encourage a more serious assessment of security needs for the event and the surrounding community. But what's more troubling is this . . .

Of course he's ignoring the warnings, he has no other choice... If he were to heed them and cancel the party, it would be a tacit admission that the party itself has no power to "calm" this group and that his claims of such were false. My guess, there will be a HUGE police presence at the event (probably just as large as what's been on the plaza, thus not solving anything but just moving the problem a few miles north), still a few fights but nothing too big, and everyone in the Mayor's office will claim it's a huge success. Then, the City will just have to figure out how to pay and host just as big of a party EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND FROM HERE ON OUT, lest the problem move back a few miles south.
